Hello fasters: I'm fasting today. It's cold but sunny and windy. There's snow in those hills. I am just having my first black coffee of the day, having polished off a glass of home made kombucha - how many calories is that? It does have quite a lot of sugar in it but I think a lot of that is fermented by the bacteria, although I stop it before it gets too vinegary. Any other Aussies in today?
Hi Sallyo you just beat me here  Another perfect autumn day here. Im at work with a coffee looking through files of tax stuff :sleepy: .
Happy Monday Fasting
Hi Sallyo and Wineoclock, I'm in!
I've been researching how to make kombucha @SallyO. Even bought some bottles to put it in. Don't worry about the sugar. Its mostly eaten up in the process I believe. The 350 ml bottle I have here has only 33 calories and 5.95grams of sugar in the bottle which is a smidge over a teaspoon. I love drinking the stuff as I don't have a sweet tooth and I like the slightly sweet and sour flavor. Its expensive to buy. Ranging from $4.50-$6.50 in health food shops. I bought a box of mixed flavors online (the brand is called Tea Gardens) and it worked out to $2.20 a bottle. How long did you ferment yours for and did you add a flavour ( I.e fruit juice?) after that then ferment for a few more days? I don't have a scoby yet but I can buy one locally off Gumtree.( free classified website)
I also have something in common with you @Wineoclock and have to search for some papers for hubs tax from 2 years ago. Fun.
Xxx .
Thanks for starting today Sally, I am in. I just had to have a half of a small banana as I am taking antibiotics and need to take them with food. Figure its about 35 calories, so that's OK. :like:

Enjoy your day Julianna and Wineoclock working on your paperwork - Sally, I have read about the kambucha from the Paleo sites I belong to, I might try it one day.

I am feeling pretty good lately, and want to keep it going.

cheers
Maggie.
Hi @Sallyo it's 1am here. I'm off to sleep once I have finished my cup of tea. Signing up early as tomorrow is a full on day. Also my internet is VERY slow for some reason, tomorrow the line will be checked to try eliminate the fault. Planning a late dinner of cod and salad, rhubarb and yoghurt. Wishing everyone a great fast and day :clover:
@julianna, I went to a fermenting workshop and learned about making fermented fruit and veg, kefir and kombucha. Kombucha is the only part of it that I am keeping up with. Hope to start back with water and milk kefir when my life stops being so chaotic! I ferment my kombucha for about a week to 10 days. If I leave it much longer it tastes like vinegar. I only do one ferment and I don't add any flavourings. I recently purchased someone else's home made 2nd Ferment raspberry flavour - but it only tasted like vinegar. So I don't know if that is normal for 2nd ferments or just that she left the first ferment go too long. I certainly didn't taste any raspberry, although it looked pink. I'm glad to hear your comments about the sugar and low calories. I do have a scoby and I wish I could send you one as they multiply alarmingly.
Hello Monday fasters! :)

As you may know, I had decided to take a break from fasting, while I learn to read my body's signals re hunger and satiety better.

I haven't been doing too bad with this, but yesterday, being Mothers Day, I did allow myself to indulge in roast with all the trimmings (as requested by younger son), self-saucing chocolate pudding (as requested by older son), and some of the beautiful Anvers fudge and chocolate that we brought back from Tassie. So I am feeling like I should, even could, fast today.

But I will see how I go. So far I haven't felt at all hungry, but if hunger does become too much, I will eat - though hopefully it will still be a lower calorie day.

Best wishes and good luck to all fasters! :clover:

PS we have had quite a bit of rain lately, but the sun is trying to break through, and I am airing the house for the first time in days, despite the outside temperature being quite cool. I do hate stuffy rooms!! And I even hung the washing out - perhaps a bit optimistic...
I'm in today, 1 x white tea, 1 x black tea and an apple cider vinegar in hot water so far today and then a healthy rocket, serrano, fetta and fig salad for dinner tonight. Am enjoying today after a very indulgent weekend (buy hey, it was Mother's Day!). I have never heard or Kombucha before today and now it is everywhere. I went to the health food shop to get a new bottle of apple cider vinegar for the office and the girl in there was drinking it and then I jumped on here and you are all talking about it - spooky!

Happy fasting everyone.
Nice one,@Pilchards. It is a thing of the moment but I think it's also quite ancient. There is a theory that because we are all so clean nowadays we have killed off the biodiversity of our gut bacteria. This is one way of replacing it. A lot of us eat yogurt but apparently we need a lot of different micro flora and fauna to be healthy. That leaves less room for unhealthy bacteria.

@Sassy1. I see you are on board the Don't Go Hungry Diet. Good luck to you. Are you keeping the journal and everything? It is very sensible and I will be interested to see how you develop with this. I try to do it, along with 5:2. I found 5:2 gave me a much better appreciation of what Hungry feels like.

I am going ok. Made pumpkin and apple soup for dinner already. A coffee, a tea, 2 slices of a very good apple. Now off to town with OH to see the GP. Should hold it together until dinner time.
I'm in today. Have really had a good week. I have been volunteering to drive on evenings out, so no alcohol. I'm really hoping to see a downward shift when I weigh tomorrow after sitting at this weight for an age  happy fasting everyone :clover:
Morning all I'm back to MWF fasting.
The scales showed 2.2kg weight gain since Friday so time to do a fast today. I know, it could be for all kinds of reasons but it was above my range I have set myself. Lots of herbal tea as I feel the cold very much today.
I'm in too , tried really hard not to go over TDEE at the weekend but the carb monster was really misbehaving itself :cyclops: so I don't know if it is going to be good news when I weigh in tomorrow ....

Just had my hot water and ACV ...then protein bar and the new replacement for Innocent Veg Pots for dinner tonight...a BOL !
So far not impressed as they only have 1 or 2 that are under 300 cals :-(

Happy fasting all ..hope the day goes nice and quick :-)
I couldn't resist stepping on the scales this morning rather than waiting for tomorrow. Finally a loss  1 kilo down whoopee!
Well done @Skinnyjeans.

I had an indulgent weekend of eating as we had a picnic on saturday at the coast and yesterday a McDonalds. I have the chicken burger no mayo so it's not to bad.

So in today, I've already been out for my run and I may have to go off to town later but need to get tidy as we have visitors the weekend for SFIL birthday party (I am not hosting it they have hired a hall but will be coming here too.)
Not sure what to eat later may have gnocci or butternut squash or may do both
