I love your avatar @grannieannie! When you are having trouble, just go give Annie's doggie a big hug.
I'm in today. I hope what I'm planning to make is not inedible (grew up learning from my mother's favorite The I Hate to Cook Book by Peg Bracken): smoked salmon smashed with avocado and green onions, wrapped in a lettuce leaf (ala fav mexican food, not to be named). It's not Peg Bracken's recipe, I'm just throwing stuff I like together and hoping for the best. I won't be eating for several hours, but I have appointments today, so I will be busy.
Hi everyone! I'm in today, as well. Sallyo, it is wonderful that your husband is coming home. Drive carefully! Lil, glad the fall brought no worse than bruises. They hurt but they heal! Drilakila, I find fast days kind of a relief as well. I still have to feed He Who is Hungry 3 squares as well as additional "I'm (weak, dizzy, etc.)--isn't there something I can eat?"times. But, as for me, apple slices and a little brie, some spiced up chicken broth for lunch and dinner with some salad along with massive infusions of black coffee and seltzer and I'll be good. I'm doing 4:3 for the first part of February, trying to shoehorn things into a rough semblance of 16:8 time frame. I made a 3 lb. loss on our family fitness challenge for January, but just exactly on the number! I want February to be a less fraught with suspense! Congratulations on your running, TheGinJunkie! Walking every day is more my speed! I did hit 25,000 steps on Saturday, though :victory: --and then just about died! :dazed: Best of luck to everyone! February is going to be a fabulous month! :clover:
I'm back (see separate post) and I'm in today!

Going well so far.....oops, I just typed "fat" instead of "far" - Freudian slip, ha ha xx

Anyway. I will be joining those fasting today.

Welcome back. I'm still a newbie, learning what works, and gaining if it doesn't work. Fasting today, hope I can go to bed without overeating. Running must keep you healthy.
I'm in today, just after noon here, having my usual pot o' green tea.

@lil, sorry to hear about your fall. Don't be surprised if you feel other effects, such as being more emotional; I've had a few bad falls and it's not just the physical...take care of yourself! (are you taking arnica?)

@grannieannie, re: tempting food being out. I work from home, and have stuff out all the time. Maybe it's because it's always there? Now, I'll say there are certain foods I won't prepare on a light day (such as tacos, yum) because I want to eat them! (Rice Krispie treats, never! ) But for the most part, my mantra is "I can have it tomorrow!" And I don't lie to myself; if I can't have it tomorrow, I don't say that. However, it often (more often than not) happens that I don't have it the next day, just because I no longer want it. But the mantra is powerful.

@TheGinJunkie--post in the Introduce Yourself thread and tell us more about yourself...
@Sallyo, forget to welcome you back to the fasting fold! Funnily, before I logged in today, I was thinking, I wonder what Sally is up to?

I too don't do well with windows; I can't stand daily restriction, and find that I tend to just pig out during the eating window...plus I get obsessed with "when can I eat." I find twice weekly light days much more doable. Glad to hear your hubby is better, hope it's OK once you're home...taking care of a sick person can be very draining. Don't forget to take care of yourself!
What a companionable Fasting today thread we have had today! I'm off to bed now - thanks for good wishes - I am definitely on the mend 5 days after the event but now impatient to be 'better' Wishing our transatlantic members a successful conclusion to their day.

Really good advice @ferretgal
My day: appointments kept, anxiety met, bills paid, walked 1.6 miles. I feel invincible and hope to take that with me until bedtime. Haven't eaten yet, on my way to fix my meal. Best part about this day - NO COOKING!
Did it! Yes, lovely to see such great action on the daily thread, I'm sorry to have missed you. Welcome all newbies and returners. Quite a party  Best wishes to all of you out west still fasting the day away. :clover:
 1am and time to fall into bed. :sleepy:
Perhaps I'll close out the thread, like in olden times (last year?). I had a slice of meatloaf, a small piece of Italian bread, and a tossed salad. Almost bedtime, after a very sluggish day (it's been snowing all day - that's my excuse for my pitiful 3400 steps). Well, tomorrow's a new day, as we say around here. A weigh in (I'm trying to drop a couple of pounds, so far no dice), breakfast  , and a real workout. Yay!
hah hah wendyjane, I'm here after you! Of course, I'm in an earlier time zone. In fact, I haven't noticed anyone on the forum further west than US Pacific; no Alaskans or Hawaiians?

Kept my light day, a few cals under; going to have a "dessert" of yogurt and blueberries with some herbal tea. G'night, all!
Dear 5:2 fasters old and new.....I am 53, so a lady of a certain age I suppose. I saw Michael Moseley`s documentary when it first came out, have read the books, and also have lurked around the Fast Day website from the beginning. After about 3 months of thinking about it decided to plunge in. I have never been officially over weight but at this point I was heading to my heaviest ever 10 stone 10lbs and all my clothes had simultaneously shrunk in the wash. Although my BMI was still in the healthy range, as I`m 5ft 6" I really didn't want to drift into a fat old age. After a month of the 5:2 way of life I was back to 10 stone, and this has stayed off despite not doing 5:2 since then until January first 2016 - this time, although I have remained 10 stone, I had noticed my clothes groaning again, and when I measured around my waist it was 33", exactly half my height, the very top end of healthy according to many. So back on the wagon, then. This time I decided to be much more organised, and I have found it much easier as a result. Thanks so much to all the contributors to the website who have sent in their hot tips, it has been so helpful. Since January 1st I haven't actually lost a single ounce BUT I have lost a whopping 3" from my waist which I can hardly believe, and all my clothes fit me so much better. This is how I have done it; I have taken the advice of so many that it can be beneficial to wait until the evening to eat your daily allowance of calories so no breakfast and no lunch. Instead I have been drinking "soup" made of a teaspoon each of veg stock powder and tumeric, maybe with chopped parsley or coriander in the mug. If really hungry by lunchtime I add a teaspoon of full fat Greek/Turkish yogurt. Other than that I make up a large jug of sparkling spring water with chopped up mint, a lemon and a lime in it, and also a cube of grated ginger, which I keep topped up with spring water. Dinner time is easy, I can eat very well for 450-500 calories, depending what I've drunk throughout the day. I plan to keep going indefinitely, especially as there is heart disease and dementia in the family so if there's any chance of reducing my risk then I am all for it. I have never been on a diet except once I tried to keep a very overweight friend company, it was awful, so much counting and obsessing involved with never an end in sight - no wonder so many people fail! -whereas intermittent fasting offers such incredible freedom once you've worked out your daily allowance, and can reliably put together a 400-500 cal meal. On days when I'm not fasting I often miss a meal when I'm not hungry - I think this is one of the most useful things this WOL has taught me, what a revelation! Good luck to all the other Newbies out there
Welcome and thanks for your post, @JLmid. I only saw it by chance because I was curious about why someone would be posting today on the 'Fasting Today' thread for Monday 1st February! :?:
It deserves wider recognition and some 'welcomes' from other forum members, so why don't you re-post it in the 'Introduce Yourself' section so more people will see it?
I have been around for just over three years and am very happy to have found this WOL as it is the only thing that has ever kept my weight stable (ish!) for longer than a few months. :victory:
I hope that you continue to enjoy your fasting and our Forum.
Thanks, StowgateResident, I was in a hurry and I didn't look through the site properly.....I did have an idea that thefre was an "Introduce Yourself" section but then couldn't find it, wil lre post now
