Hello fellow fasters. I'm in today. Just sitting down with coffee. Today I think I'll try to drink more. I'll set the timer to remind me every 2 hours to have a drink. I've not been doing enough drinking. Tonight's menu is frittata with broccoli - from the garden - with a small amount of Stilton cheese. I bought Woolworth's brand Stilton because it's all there was. You could only buy big amounts of King Island blue and it was after work and after 5 so I didn't feel like finding other shops where I might get more authentic Stilton or a better range of Australian blue cheese. It went against the grain on 2 fronts to buy this cheese. 1. It's Woolworth's brand and 2. Stilton is not a local cheese. Has this cheese come all the way across the planet from England? Any way, the Jamie Oliver recipe specified Stilton so, I broke away from my usual practice and bought it. Have a good day every one.
Hi, @Sallyo. I'm in tomorrow too (tomorrow doesn't start for another 6 hours, though, and the eating part is still 24 hours away). I'm very tired of 5:2 to maintain. I used to do 6:1 to maintain very successfully, but all this year I've gone back to 5:2 just to stay a pound over my acceptable range. Frustrating. Well, there are worse problems I suppose. I guess my fast day meal will be more of the meatloaf I'm making for tonight's dinner. Do Aussies and Brits eat meatloaf? It seems like an American thing. But then, roast turkey used to be also, and now it seems to be everywhere. I know the Brits call ground meat mincemeat. But not sure what exactly you make out of it.... rambling, here. Sorry
PS How is it you have broccoli from the garden? Isn't this the wrong time of year? Anyway, your dinner sounds tasty!
Thanks @wendyjane. I'm tired of 5:2 as well. Knowing it is a fasting day was a disincentive to get out of bed this morning. But I don't want to put the weight on, so I keep at it. Some days are easier than others. Hoping that drinking every 2 hours might help. Yes, Aussies have meat loaf, although I haven't had it for quite a few years. We call it mincemeat too, but also fruit mince is also called mincemeat, so it's confusing. Mincemeat is also called 'mince'. We have broccoli in the garden because it is an all year crop here. It doesn't get so cold as all that and we grow broccoli through the winter because in the summer there's no room in the garden for brassicas. All the garden is taken up in summer with tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers etc, which we can't grow in winter because of frost. In winter, we also have cauliflowers, cabbage, spinach and i am harvesting the last of the carrots which can stay in the ground over winter. It's spring now, so I've sowed my tomato seeds in punnets. @Wineoclock, in NSW is harvesting snow peas, but we are behind her and my snow peas have just started flowering. Sorry to rabbit on. I love talking vegetable gardening.
Hi @Wendyjane and @Sallyo, heres another who is a bit fed up with fasting. Ive put on so much weight this year (due to stressful happenings and holidays) that I know I need to. I dont think its coming off much but its not getting any worse. I am accepting this as a life style.
On a happier note, we are still eating snowpeas although they will be finished soon. I think we will be picking the first crop of broad beans on the weekend. Carrots will all be harvested on the weekend too. We have heaps of kale and chard. Beetroots are ready too. We also are also growing fennel, zucchini, capiscum, artichokes, chillis, lettuces, leeks, spring onions and lots of random potato plants popping up too.
Oh dear now Im hungry. Oh well happy fasting
My second fast of the week and I always get a kick out doing supermarkt shopping on a fasting day, makes me feel very pleased with myself. Today is my day off so lots of washing and cleaning to keep me occupied. I drink about one glass of water every hour. So far two coffees and tonight a small portion of lentil/chickpea/tomato curry for dinner. I can't believe how few people are posting these days. Have many dropped out or are they happily maintaining, doing it their own way (as I was until too many kilograms suddenly appeared)?
Yes, it's disappointing. There wasn't a 'fasting today' thread yesterday. I still need the forum. I find it easier if I know there are others doing it and I like to talk to others about how I'm going. I like the support. I don't know if I'll ever be able to do 5 2 with out that. Here is is nearly 6 and I'm ready to start getting that frittata together. It hasn't been too bad. I had a breast screen this morning and then went shopping for birthday presents for both grand daughters who's birthdays are Saturday : 2 and 9. Books all round. I made some banana chocolate kind of slice and I'll probably have to try just a little bit of that for pudding tonight. Hope we get more on board when the western hemisphere wakes up.
Hi all, I'm in today as well for my second and final fast of the week. It has been pretty quiet round here, hasn't it? I've been as guilty of anyone of being too busy to come on here and post on the fasting today threads, but I'm making more of an effort as it's really nice to know there are people are out there doing the same thing! My OH is my real-world fasting buddy, but we've both been so busy at work that over the last month or so we've had a lot of occasions where work stuff has meant that we can't both fast together on the same days each week, which has been strange. For me it is doubly important to have the support on here on days when I'm the only one fasting at home!

I woke up with a sore throat this morning, so lots of tea and soup for me today. @Wmr309 it's interesting what you say about food shopping on a fast day - ordinarily I try and avoid that as I assume I will be really hungry and buy far too much. On Tuesday this week I had to food shop on a fast day, on my way home from work at about 6 pm. Interestingly it wasn't hunger that was the problem at all, it was that my brain doesn't work brilliantly at that time of day on a 5:2 day so I was missing things from the list and walking past things I needed. What I do like to do on fast days though is spend the evening batch cooking for the rest of the week - it fills the evening nicely and I know I am making nice things for my feast days! On Tuesday I had got lots of cheap plums in the supermarket, so I was stewing them and freezing them in batches for crumble, and tonight I am going to make ratatouille as there are so many uses for it. Anyone else do this?

Wow I'm rambling this morning. No more caffeine for me... :clover: :clover: to all.
Hi all, I'm in today too. Looking to undo a lovely but calorie-unrestricted couple of days working away from home earlier this week. I'm off to a hearing appointment at the hospital shortly, that'll keep me busy for a while before my little lunch. Interesting to learn so many of us grow our own food. I'm nibbling at our allotment-grown grapes today - very nice but very small and full of pips so it takes ages to eat any significant number of calories!
I'm keeping a fast today too. Feeling hungry but I think I'll get through the day.
I had to have a handful of nuts (non-salted almonds and Brazil nuts) before cooking dinner as I felt a bit light headed. I cooked a curry that was yesterday's daily recipe on taste.com.au but also made some Thai chilli jam chicken with capsicum and snow peas as I needed the extra protein. I didn't miss the rice. Tonight only peppermint tea so that should count as a successful fast (I don't count calories). @Fancyacuppa I have baked before on fasting days but as my 'deadline' for losing three kilograms is less than a fortnight away (holiday on a pacific island) I am avoiding all baking for the time being. The family understands (OH joins me twice a week) and knows the strict approach is only temporary.
Hi there - I am here as well. My only fast this week as hubs and I had a long weekend away and today is the only day that really fit. Always feel a bit anxious that first fast after a big weekend of eats and drinks. On the one hand, I'm happy to resume the fast and reset, but on the other, a fast feels slightly scary after the non-stop days of feasting. I look forward to feeling great and back in control as the day progresses!
Oops, completely forgot to pledge my fast, it's 6.30pm here. @Fitfunk As a maintainer I do like the term 'reset' as that's what I'm doing. For the veggie gang ...... found a kiwi bush at the bottom of the garden 2 weeks ago (hanging over from the neighbour) and it has big fruit  However they are not ripe and as autumn is here that's probably it. Perhaps if the summer had been hotter I could be eating them now. I've never heard of kiwi growing in the UK ...... Will post a pic later that DD took.
Hi @Mantishugo and welcome to the forum. You might want to go to the 'introduce yourself thread' and share a bit about yourself eg new to fasting or seasoned faster, that way those who have not visited this daily thread will be able to give you a very warm welcome.
Hi everyone,

I'm fasting today as well. I'm finding the mornings ok, but I go a bit groggy in the afternoon. Is this something that will lessen after a while? I was thinking of maybe having my meal in one go in the evening, instead of in two meals.

I've just made some nettle tea and I put a hop cone in that I picked from a hedge. It made it quite tasty.
I'm actually not in today; I'll be doing my light day tomorrow, as I'm meeting Lori from this forum for dinner tonight.

I've got a bit of disgruntlement going on about fasting too; have been faithfully fasting twice a week, every week, and my weight has not budged in months! Oh well, at least I'm staying stable, eh? (So why do I feel so fat? ) As for some of you, @wendyjane in particular, I see that your BMI is quite low, and thinking that might be part of the reason you need 5:2 (rather than 6:1) to maintain (that low of a BMI might be unnaturally low for you).

Although I've never joined any of the challenges, I'm considering it now; perhaps it would give me a kick in the pants and jumpstart more weight loss. Even if I never make my goal weight, I'd sure like to lose at least another 10lbs.
@Ferretgal plateaus do happen so don't feel despondent. From what I have read, taking your foot off the fasting for a short time helps, Wishing you and @Lori a great meet up.
Join the gentle challenge for a rest, just to maintain and chat :victory:
