Well, am I fasting or not? I wasn't going to, being New Year's Day. But this morning I felt the pull to fast. So I think I'll have a low calorie day. I have had a poached egg and one piece of sour dough toast and a black coffee - not the usual high calorie muesli and milk coffee. I'm going to try to go without lunch - or just a miso soup, and have a light dinner of cold ham and salad. It is the start of the 2015 104 fasts. Remembering my New Year Resolution, which is to declutter an object every day. What will it be today? I've already scanned the top bookshelf and decided I can't possibly declutter any of those books! If any other Thursday Fasters are here, happy day.
Have a lovely, peaceful FD (appetite-wise), @Sallyo - and may its success set the tone for the year for you. :)

This is not one of my FDs but I wish you and your fellow fasters well.
Hi @Sallyo, my intention is to join you on a fast today. :)
My last fast was almost a week ago, I was hoping to fast on Monday but it was one of those traveling days when I really felt the "need" to eat... I have been having leftover Christmas food for days now, and I definitely need a break.
We are in the Riverland, with very hot days in store. We are sitting outside our caravan, under shelter of course (OH has rigged up an arrangement with lots of shade but also airflow) with 2 fans blowing on us, but I probably will retreat to the air conditioned comfort of the van before too long...
This is my first chance to check out the forum since we were in Adelaide, so I expect I have a bit of catching up to do.
Best wishes to fellow fasters and everyone for the New Year! :D :clover:  :clover:
Happy New Year! :clover:
It's still 2014 here in Nevada so I will have a bit of wine yet tonight. Tomorrow will be a fast day for me. I'm looking forward to it! Hubs and I just got back from a month or so in the wilds of the Arizona/California desert followed by Christmas with family (lots of good food). Lots of fun!
In addition to a full return to 5:2, I am (along with Hubs, daughter, and other family) taking part in a month-long online diet bet. The bet is $25 and the goal is losing 4% of weight in 4 weeks. My goal will be a loss of about 4.5lbs. which is totally doable on 5:2. That will put me back at my weight when I went on maintenance about 7 months ago. The main reason I am doing the bet is to encourage some lovely young women  in my family who need a boost in taking that first step toward a healthy weight (and a couple of those of us older ones who also need a boost). :geek:

Our daughter was the inspiration for this diet/bet mechanism. Always slender, a dancer and athlete, she had put on weight during the stresses of law school and relationship difficulties. When she decided to get healthy, she turned to dancing as her exercise of choice. She tried the 5:2, but it didn't seem to fit her. She found the fasts too taxing in her hectic life. So, a high speed Ninja blender with 2 to-go cups full of healthy greens, fruit, yogurt along with nuts and jerky snacks took care of breakfast and lunch. A salad and chicken or fish took care of dinner. (Cooking ahead in batches made it easier). This works for her. Where the diet bet came in was helping her to make good choices. :?: When she'd be tired and hungry on her way home, the knowledge of the coming weigh-in and the bet gave her the gumption to pass up the fast food options and instead know she would eat what she had. Since she first began, she has lost about 45 lbs. She looks amazing! :victory:
So, I talked to my nieces and sister about the 5:2 and directed them to the website to check it out. They all know what 5:2 has done for me, so I hope they will give it a try. At any rate, they've signed up for the bet and I am very hopeful that they will find success. I'll let everyone know how it goes. 5:2 tomorrow! Yay!
Good Mornig to you all.
I' m. kind of fasting today. I'll go until tea time, then have a lightish calorie tea but probably have a slice of Christmas cake.
What have you decided to do @Sallyo?
The bet challenge sounds very motivating @bordergirlHere's hoping all participating get some benefit from it, and well done to you for spreading the word!
Happy fasting :clover:
Fasting today too in Maryland, USA! Happy New Year Everyone!!

Sandy
Hello and welcome @SandraD
Hope your first fast goes well.
If you do a little 'this is me ' post and tell us a wee bit about yourself in the Introduce Yourself threads you'll get a warm welcome.
I've kind of fasted, @janeg. I didn't have anything else to eat after my egg and toast, but then in the mid afternoon, I did decide to have a piece of Christmas cake. Now I am about to have dinner: cold ham and salad. No alcohol. No dessert. On Monday I'll be back on the straight and narrow. How are you going over there? Welcome @SandraD and sounds good @bordergirl. Nothing like competition.
Have a good fastday everyone :clover:
I've decided to not do my usual Thursday as we've leftovers from last night which won't keep. Off to family tomorrow, to go to a wedding on Saturday, then a mega drive home on Sunday.
I might try and have a low calorie day instead. Tried yesterday and failed at that. I'm back up to 13 and half stone so need to do something.
I am fasting with you today Sallyo, and every one else doing it. My last day of fasting was the 23rd December, so I'd better get back to fasting routine. I was doing a rather severe window fasting for all of Advent. So eating since Christmas has felt really, really good. I am sure it is thanks to this Forum that I did not stuff myself uncomfortable at Christmas dinner. Though I have been "stuffing" my face rather with Christmas Cake and all different kinds of pieces of chocolate, that people gave us for Christmas.
I will report on my weight after fasting tomorrow. I has been rather fluctuating recently... But on the positive note I weigh a lot less than last year after Christmas.
Hi @Brand-ie, what a great year you had last year re weight loss! :) Sorry to hear that you are struggling to fast at the moment. Hopefully just a temporary glitch - I am sure that after a year of fasting you are able to work out what the reasons are and find a solution. Good luck! :clover:
I managed my fast reasonably well - the previous 6 days of Festive eating plus the hot weather helped keep the hunger pangs at bay!! I did have a miso soup late afternoon and then a chicken curry with lots of low cal veg and no rice of course. Some fruit for dessert though.
Best wishes to those still fasting. :)
Good morning Thursday fasters. I am fasting today, and am determined to make it a successful first fast of the year. It helps that I woke up late so there's not much left of the morning. Currently I am sipping a lemon and ginger herbal tea. Keeping everything crossed for today. :clover:
Well done all of you! I am for a change on the otherside of the world, so it's 1pm Thursday and my fellow Aussies will be finishing their Thursday. I am sitting on a train from Birmingham to London and thought i'd check in, no fasts for 2 weeks, but strangely my jeans still fit, so hope the holiday hasn't added too much weight. I'll be back fasting with you next week. Good luck all fasters :-)
First fast of many as a returnee. Health problems have caused a 20lb increase of weight, 3lb extra pounds was Christmas. I have a short target of that 20lbs off before I visit my daughter, or I won't have any clothes to wear.

I am aiming for a liquid only fast, but will have a pan of vegetable soup on the stove later in case I can't keep to it. Both my sons are joining me on 5:2, so I don't have to cook lunch, (hubby is a very poor eater so will be doing 18:6. My tummy isn't grumbling yet, but my thirst is building, back to glugging water it seems.
