Good morning fasters. I'm up, black coffee at my side. About to go for a walk. And today public servants, including teachers at government schools, are having a stop work meeting at 9am. The Tasmanian government wants to change our pay and conditions agreement by legislation and not by negotiation with the independent umpire. We can't agree to that, although we have agreed to the 2%pay freeze for this financial year. ( The Government wants an indefinite pay freeze at 2%) So we're having a stop work meeting and then the government got the huff and have closed schools for the day, instead of just until 10.30am. That has got the parents off side so now they're with us. All the government public servants will be there today too so it should be a good turn out. I certainly hope so, anyway. So that's why I'm not at yoga. That started at 6.30am and I can't go to school after it and I didn't want to be filling in time in town until 9am with only a black coffee to fill in the hours. So have a good fast everyone.
@Sallyo I'm in with you, but more calories lucky me :-) Have been contemplating my maintenance as I do and thinking if the different ways of going about not putting the weight back on. Doing 3 x 1000 al fasts does feel like dieting in a way, the old here we go again, restriction time. The flip side is, it keeps me mentally alert to not scoffing whatever I fancy. Although one side of me doesn't like being reigned in, especially when I have lost the weight, the more sensible side thinks its good for me to keep the wild child handcuffed

I wish I could get even a 2% pay rise, not had a pay rise in 6 years boo hoo, but that's the dark side of self employment, balancing what your clients will pay and what you need to live on. Good luck fasters.
With you too - my fasts have been all over the days lately, so trying to go back to Thursday as a "rule" and commit by logging on here and saying it out loud. Already looking for excuses to change and its only 11.00am ... @Sallyo - I'm with you on the work issues, I work as a public servant (in Wellington) and have taken some interest in what is happening in Australia now you no longer have a Gillard led government. Labour led parties in our part of the world tend to be a bit more respectful of public servants imo. But perhaps I am just being nostalgic. Good luck.
It's not really about the 2% @GMH. It's about how wage and conditions are negotiated. The government wants to by pass the Industrial Commision and just pass legislation. That's not how wage and conditions are organised in this country and I don't want to start now. And they say unions won't negotiate so they are going to cut hundreds of jobs- 2 teachers in every school. Or cut music or languages or special needs.
Any way the hall was packed and spilling out into the street and someone who I hadn't seen for a few years said: I didn't recognise you because you are so skinny!
Yes I get it, just having a whinge about no pay rises, no holiday pay, no sick pay, but it was my choice to drop out of my BE and become in the end, self employed rather than a teacher as I had planned for the first 18 ears f my life. Hey great about the skinny comment. Time for some skinny pics?
Hi fasting friends. I'm in. Had trouble getting onto the forum earlier maybe that's why there aren't many of us here yet. Congrats on the skinny @Sallyo.
I would post pics but I don't know how to.
Following the industrial action at work today there was a morning tea. Luckily I sat next to another teacher in the staff room who is fasting and we strengthened one another. I had only one small short bread reindeer and she had one scone with jam and cream. I had to promise myself I would take myself out for morning tea tomorrow and have a decadent cake. 33Cups I've got you in my sights!
IT's 3.15pm and I've just had tuna, cottage cheese and lettuce to get me through the rest of the afternoon. Squid for dinner and salad. Now for another cup of tea.
I'm im @Sallyo! That 33Cups sounds like the go for tomorrow. ;) And how nice to get the skinny acknowledgement/compliment.
I am fasting today as well. It is only 10:30 so most of the days black tea and coffee still ahead of me. This will be my last maintenance fast for a while, because in Advent I will try the 19:5 fasting window method. Beginning on Sunday I am only going to eat between 15:00 - 19:00. I wonder how that'll be. so I'd better make the most of this maintenance day. eh? Stamina to you all until suppertime!
Hello all - I'm with you today, to undo last night's damage, OMG!!
Back after a stupid break, but still trying to get my head in the right place.....

Good luck everyone!

Hi, I'm in today, ate really late last night after swimming (10.30 pm), my stomach is making strange noises. Will stick to my tried and tested coffee/skimmed milk/water until the evening, then cuppa soup and vegetables.

@GMH, 1000 calories for three days sounds interesting, would be good to know how you get on.

Good luck to all :clover:
Hello everyone ! I didn't come on a fast day topic for ages and I do apologise for it. It's kind of tricky to come here as it's not a full 500 cal fast but more of a 800 cal one....

So here I go with my second cup of coffee of the morning, after it will be water and mint green tea. I stopped drinking coke zero for a while now and I don't miss it at all. I also reduced my alcohol intake, and it makes a huge difference.
Ooh @Sallyo I just noticed you go to yoga sessions. How long have you bean doing that? Do you find it beneficial? I keep meaning to get back into it myself but have struggled lately. You seem to have bean on the 5:2 for a long time now and stuck with it steadfastly. Have you noticed great results?! (sorry about all the questions  )
Anyway, I'm in today. Have had green tea and water so far (exciting eh?!). I think tonight I've got some Marks & Spencer steak pie thing which I'll probably add some veg to.
Hope everyone has a great day today.
Bean :starving:
@nursebean: Good to see you back and fasting today! yes, I have started doing yoga again in the last couple of months. I have found a teacher I really like. I did yoga quite a lot years ago but since I have moved here - 20 years ago, I haven't found a teacher who teaches the kind of yoga I want to do. Now I have. I absolutely love it and it makes me feel much better in so many ways. As for 5:2, I've been doing it since April '13 and haven't taken any breaks. I have lost 13kgs which is fabulous. I haven't lost any weight since last summer but I haven't put it on either and I am happy with that, although I really hope I can lose another 5 kgs this summer. I just do the fasts and don't worry too much about the weight. I am still technically overweight - BMI 26 point something and it would be so good to get to that magic 25 number. But I am really happy doing 5:2 and I'm not stopping. Finished for tonight. Good dinner of home grown salad of lettuce, broad beans, snow peas and squid cooked in lemon juice, olive oil, parsley and oregano - cooked on the grill. One small lemon tart for dessert. Roll on breakfast and hang in there Thursday fasters.
Wow! @Sallyo 13 kgs?!! Thats just brilliant!
I'm glad you really enjoy your yoga now and have found the right class. I've never bean to a class myself and definitely can't at the moment. I tend to use DVDs at home and enjoy: Barbara Currie and Karen Voight. Have you heard of either of these? Anyway, they're pretty good!
Hope your fast today was good. I still haven't eaten yet :(
Bean :starving:
