What gives?
11 Oct 2015, 22:12
Today is Monday (one of my fast days) and I am struggling. What gives? After three weeks of successful fasting without so much as a tummy rumble, I find myself being so hungry this morning that I am nauseated to my stomach! Could it be because on the weekend, I indulged in alcohol and a bit more sweets than usual? Have I thrown off my ghrelin hormone with the extra carbs (glucose) and I'm now suffering the consequences? Anyone else experienced this?

I probably have experienced this although I can't recall it - I've been through most things!

All I can say is - hang in there - try drinking more to help flush things out/keep hydrated (maybe the alcohol has disrupted your natural balance).

Good luck

I think that sometimes it just happens. When it gets too much I sometimes give in and have a low cal cuppa soup (la zuppa do some good ones for under 30 calories). Drink lots of water, fizzy water helps too.
Hope the day isnt too bad for you.

Thanks for all the input, everyone! Well... It's just passed 3:30pm and I still haven't had a bite to eat yet, so I managed to get through that day okay. I went for a walk this morning and that got my mind off of the hunger pangs, and when I got back, I was straight in the workshop for a bit of woodworking... Even managed to finish the little project I had been working on. I am SO very looking forward to dinner, that's for sure!

Hi @Fastidious, I am fasting today as well. I have been doing this for a long time, 2 and a half years now, and I have recently decided to change tack. I haven't lost any weight for a year at least, maybe longer, and increasingly fasts have got harder and harder. So I have decided to cut to 6:1 and only fast on Mondays. But to do it properly on Mondays, with none of the break outs which have become a feature lately. Today I had a salad of cottage cheese and tuna with baby spinach at noon and I am going to have a lamb back-strap salad for dinner. I have lots of baby spinach in the garden which needs eating up and is hardly any calories. You get hard days. @Fastidious. I am a fan of miso soup which you can buy in sachets in the super market. I don't know why some days are harder than others, but in my case, I think I'm over it! Which is sad to admit because I want to do this for ever. If I just cut a bit of slack, maybe I won't put on all the weight I've lost and maybe this will be sustainable.

Friends I have been absent for a long time because I had a war with Telstra, the telecommunications company who we love to hate. Today for the first time in weeks and weeks the internet is connected and I can come home to the forum. I think I'd better put in a separate post about my adventures.

Glad you're back online, Sallyon! Ah yes! Good ol' Telstra! The masochist telecom company that loves to attract the ire of its customers. We got NBN not that long ago, and we're so glad to have gotten rid of these mongrels!

I think anyone who found fasting effortless every time wd be very fortunate..
I find some days hard, some easier..
As John Denver sang,Some days are diamonds, some days are stones...
But i dont think he meant fasting!
You can always change it to a 16:8 day ...or just decide todays not the day that a fast is gonna work for you..
And try again tomorrow.
Hope you enjoyed yr dindins! Well done on keeping busy..it really does help take yr mind off yr tum! X

I'll chime in and agree, some light days are just harder than others...I, too, thought it could be due to too many sweets the day before, but on testing that turned out not to be a dependable cause. Some days, you just gotta tough it out and ride those waves (of hunger); others, you breeze through with nary a thought of food. Most are somewhere in between. Interestingly, I usually have more trouble with Thursdays...

Take a look at your carb intake the day before. I may be this alone.but it's not an easy ride or everyone would be able to do it. Just remember it's a marathon not a sprint. Our bodies are great at self preservation and as I don't know our age it may be low hormone levels caused by your menstrual cycle.

If I indulge a lot one day, I have no problem to do the fast the following day "physically", but I have problem with mental mindset. Like "you needn't to to this today, let's have this delicious thing etc."
So far I manage not to give up, but it is hard sometimes.

Well... I found the culprit to my hunger struggles. If I'm moody and emotional (I'm 46 and perimenopausal), I tend to wanna eat more carbs, and voila! Next day, my body seems to have sugar withdrawals. It's worst if I've also had alcohol (me and the tipple have had some issues in the past). I found that since doing the 5:2 diet, my alcohol craving has dropped massively. I use to drink... A LOT! Now, I'm lucky if I have a beer or two over the course of a week, and some weeks I have none at all.

Its meerly a state of mind, if i am well rested and in a positive state of mind then i can take on the world and not think about food all day. But the opposite is also true. To give yourslef the best chance, make your fasting days on the days that you have the least stressful activities. Would be my advice! :)
