Hi

We live in England, and my boys are mad about NFL and play American football, so I thought it would be fun to cook a 4th July celebration meal tomorrow, especially as one of them has a drama assessment during the day, so it would be good to celebrate in the evening.

I have Googled recipes a bit, but wonder if some US folk could tell me what they will be cooking for tomorrow?

Many thanks
I'm not celebrating the fourth of July this year, but usually we have summery foods like coleslaw, potato salad, garden salad, water melon, and whatever meat is easy to cook on the grill, like chicken drumstick and hot dogs. Lots of finger foods and "carry around on a paper plate while chatting to people" foods. Cold drinks like ice tea, beer and soda.
Usually its Hamburgers & Hot Dogs on the grill with sides of potato salad, baked beans etc. Sometimes we throw chicken on the grill too while we're at it! Have fun!
BBQ ribs, fried or BBQ chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon, potato salad, coleslaw. Grilling, being outside and playing games (water guns/balloons, slip 'n slides) are most important parts of the day. :)

Oh thanks Lori, I forgot about the beans! Gotta have the baked beans.
Oh and desserts, apple pie or any fruit pie, vanilla ice cream, sheet cake with white frosting decorated as a US flag with raspberry or sliced stawberry for stripes and blueberrys for star area. :usa:

Should be strawberry, I keep losing those danged "r's" :curse:
Lori and Betsy, you baked beans eating perverts.
All that and sparklers! Or fireworks if you can get them.
Barbecue is the focal point......hamburgers, hotdogs..then watermelon, corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad and strawberry shortcake ! Yum ! But wait.....we decided to fast on Thursday ! Oh, No !!!! :(

Just switch to Friday! That's what I'm doing, anyway.
That's great - thanks very much everyone

Off to the butchers in the morning then. Also very excited about trying to make a stars and stripes cake.

The boys will love it all :)
  Barbecue...Hamburgers, hotdogs, potato and macaroni salad, strawberry shortcake and watermelon
Doesn't sound like your classic fast day diet! Good job this WOE is so flexible!
I'm American myself but will be fasting tomorrow - no point in doing a big BBQ (which is ESSENTIAL on the "4th of July", not "4th July") when I'm at work and my kids are in school. We will be BBQing at the weekend anyway (weather supposed to be fantastic!) so I may Yank it up a bit then.

And yes, in America cake can definitely be dessert!

Oh and don't forget to watch the movie "1776"! "Someone ought to ooooooopen up a window..."
My new favorite is watermelon with fresh basil and orange vinegar. Yum!

All duly noted and edited - thanks
