Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

I am new!

Hi, my name is Liz and I am getting myself set up here so I can start the 5:2 on Monday. I am looking forward to seeing how you all get on. How do I find out how many calories I can have on a fasting day?

Welcome Liz, @lizpratt0908

Do read thru the FAQ and LEARN pages to give you "all" you need to know about 5:2 and intermittent fasting, There is also a useful summary from ferretgal - look thru other recent introductions to find the link.

The usual 5:2 fast day is to have up to 500 calories (theoretically about a quarter of your usual day's consumption). Most people find it easiest to save those calories until dinner time, and just drink lots of non-sweetened drinks during the day. Keeping busy helps a lot too. But if you really feel too hungry during the day, a miso soup or similar, or a hard boiled egg, can help. Avoid eating processed or starchy or sugary carbs - have lots of (non-starchy) vegetables and good quality protein for your dinner. There are lots of recipe ideas if you don't have a meal in mind.

Good luck and best wishes :clover:
