Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

I'm Sandi and new here...

Hi from Columbus, Georgia, USA

I'm Sandi, a teacher in Columbus, GA. I'll be 50 in May and am attempting my first fast day today, on Halloween, of all days, when my kids are coming home with tons of candy. I am only 5'2" and currently weigh 132.5 pounds, but I have a small frame and I've had 6 kids. My arms and legs look thin, but all my weight is in my belly. So I basically feel like I look like an apple with toothpick arms and legs. My pants don't like to button and I'm very self-conscious. At my last endocrinologist appt I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and started medication. I"m also pre-diabetic with a strong family history of diabetes and high blood pressure.

I have no patience at all and want to see quick results. I also love to eat and right now I want to eat my keyboard.

Looking forward with a lot of curiosity to see if this new venture works.

Sandi

Hi Sandi, @sandimccann and welcome!

You will find lots of useful information on this site, so do read thru the "learn" section, and there is a useful summary from ferretgal that she posted on another discussion thread for a new member - have a look thru the recent active topics to find it. There was a discussion topic for people with thyroid problems - have a search for that too.

I find warm water with lemon juice helps with the hunger pangs, and black coffee. Keep as busy as you can as well - I am sure teaching keeps you busy. I assume you still have some of your children living at home? That will also keep you busy!

Good luck and best wishes! :clover:

Hello, Sandi!

Welcome to this board of fasting. :) Wow, most of what you have described is almost exactly what my mother has except she is 5'1" and is now 57. Because of her thyroid problems (among other things) she is often quite frail and sleeps during the day. She takes medication, but now needs to up the dose because the previous pills no longer keep her up.

I'm not sure how each individual experiences these things and it might even be a factor of the medication + other health issues. I hope that this forum is the place for you. :victory:
