Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Newby Here...

Hello everyone,
I am new to this site and wanted to gain some wisdom on fasting because I have medicine that must be taken daily with some type of food. So, I am not really sure what to do.
Appreciatively,
Lee

Welcome @leemcgahey

Please look at the response I just posted to the other newbie!

Some people do have 3 small meals on a fast day. When I first started 5:2 I had no fat yoghurt and fresh berries for brekkie (100 cals), boiled egg, one crispbread, and salad for lunch (150 cals), and chicken or fish with veggies for dinner (250 cals)..

But do check with your doctor that fast days are appropriate given the medication you are on.

Do tell us more about yourself and keep us posted on your experience.

Good luck and best wishes :clover:

Pharmacists know best about this sort of question (or at least they do in the states). Usually when a medicine has to be taken with food, it doesn't have to be taken with *a lot* of food. A hard boiled egg (70 calories) probably provides the fat and protein buffer that will help absorb the medicine, or maybe a piece of string cheese. Often the reason for this is because either (1) the medicine needs fat to help absorption or (2) it causes stomach upset on an empty stomach in many people. So finding out the reason for taking the medicine with food will help you figure out what you need to do.

Welcome!
