Starting this week

Hi all
Saw the Horizon programme last year and have just finished the book.
I am a serial yoyo dieter, the most successful being with LighterLife in 2006 when I lost 6 stone. Unfortunately the gallstones I got from the diet nearly killed me (pancreatitis, liver damage)and over time the weight has gone back on and some more.
In January I went back to eating the way I did when I was younger and single - organic, vegan, high raw and this has helped me feel enornously better with a steady loss of 1-2 lb per week. I've done a lot of research and am eating really well with careful attention to my nutrition.
I am thnking of adding 5:2 to this way of eating to bump up the healing and weight loss so watch this space :D

Hi LRO & welcome to the forums :)
Sorry to hear about what you've been through. A lot of us have yoyo dieted througouth our lives but I doubt many of us have almost been seen off by one of the diets! Glad to hear you made it through & that things are improving.

Let us know how 5:2 works for you in addition to your paleo style of eating :)

Hi, sorry to hear about your gallbladder problems, I had to have mine taken out last year I have never felt pain like it & thats including having 3 kids. Im sure it was caused by by dieting methods & when I watch TV programs where people lose so much weight really fast I now think it's just a gallstone waiting to develop. How is your digestion now if you dont mind me asking?

I've had no further problems thankfully since the gallbladder op in 2006. I know from reading that some people suffer with bowel problems but thankfully I have been fine. Never want to go through pain like that again! Every single person I know who has been on a very low calorie diet like Lighterlife, Cambridge etc has ended up with gallbladder problems - and to be fair my GP did warn me that it was a risk. But I was so desperate to lose weight I blithely told her at the time it was a risk I was prepared to take. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I thought the Paleo diet was high meat?? My diet is certainly very 'clean' in terms of no processed food, all home cooked, high nuts / grains / veg / fruit. I do love it and feel very much better (no brain fog) but it is restritive socially and even within the family setting so if I can add in 5:2 and revert to that only when I have reached my goal weight (long way to go - BMI 43 - eek   ) then I will be happy for life :D
