Sugar free gum

Hi everyone only on my first day fast, has anyone tried using sugar free chewing gum through the fast day? Does it make it easier or would it make you more hungry? X

I don't use artificial sweeteners. period.

Studies are showing they can make you gain weight. They tell the brain "hey, look out, something sweet is here, you have calories coming!" The brain pumps out an insulin response to meet the expected sugar and calories but there aren't any calories or sugar to intercept. The body then says "OMG I'm starving here!" and the end result is you eat more.

I have replaced cans of diet soda (I used to regularly have six a day) with cans of fizzy water/flavored seltzer.

I find chewing gum a life saver on fasting days. I don'e eat lots perhaps once in the morning and maybe one again in the afternoon. As i save all my cals for one evening meal, I find that i can have a terrible stale taste in my mouth. I'd hate to think my breath stank (although nobody's said anything yet, but people can be polite) It doesn't make me feel any hungrier. So for me, it's a good thing!

Hi, i have just completed a month and a half on 5:2 diet.I also have a terrible taste in my mouth throughout the day and my husband says my bresth smells awful. Also worry about this at work in meetings etc, have considered sugar free chewing gum, would i be better sticking to mouth wash or breath freshener and does this help?

I don't do gum as it gives me wind :) However I think I have solved the problem of dry tongue and bad taste mouth.
I use good tea bags for my black tea (weak) wait till it's almost cold to drink, then I use fruit infussion bags as well as plain water.
I'm fasting today and this combo is certainly working for me.

Hi, I virtually live off sugar free gum. Above it says it may increase your appetite but that is not true in my case. I do my fasting, chew the gum and stick to the 500 calories and do not eat any more. The gum helps me through the day.

Hi all, re sugar free gum, I don't find it makes me hungry and it does help me get through the fast day and it freshens up my mouth. I am not worried about the artificial sweetners, they are present in very small amounts.

Chewing gum makes me really hungry. I read somewhere recently that there is science behind it. The chewing action tells the stomach that there is food on the way.
