Morning after the first fast
21 Feb 2013, 11:39
Found the fast not much of a problem yesterday, went to bed at 10 not feeling too hungry but slept terribly. This is not unusual for me and wont blame the plan but this morning I felt awful!!! I wasnt hungry but i was shaky and felt sick and could hardly get going ! I had to eat some nuts while my toast cooked cos I felt so empty - empty but not hungry - very strange. Feeling fine now but it was like how you feel after a day of being sick or a really bad hangover. Its not put me off but if this is normal I will not have to be doing anything early the day after a fast day
Prehaps it's just the effects of your body going through detox but why dont you book yourself in at the Doc's for a check up just to put your mind at rest while you continue with the 5:2?
I will see how I feel after the next one, Im fine - at work and everything. Maybe it was psychological - getting that empty belly feeling which i associate with being ill ? who knows!
I too felt the same as you after my first day of fasting. I am now in my third week and feel great the morning after a fast. Are you drinking plenty of water on your fast day? If I have been on the move on my fast days and have not drunk at least 2L of water, I feel a little sick the following morning.
Well I thought I had but Thank you I will watch that and see if it helps. I peed for england yesterday - I was doing some DIY with my Dad - Im sure he thought it was strange when i disappeared 4 times during the afternoon!
I felt the same for the first 3-4 fasts, and I also slept badly. I started drinking some bovril or vegetable juice in addition to water and herbal tea, in order to get some salt and potassium (I almost don't eat on fasting days), and I eat a small yoghurt or some other low-fat low-sugar protein snack before going to bed, to not feel hungry.
Now (4 weeks on the program) I don't have any side effects anymore. Even the hunger feeling during fast days is almost gone. This may be due to the fact that I now seem to switch to fat-burning/ketosis within hours of fasting, which makes me feel more energized. the first two weeks, the ketones wouldn't appear during fasting. So it would seem my metabolism has adapted. I have to remind myself I am fasting, because I don't really notice!
Hi Saggy Cat
I felt odd yesterday morning too - kind of sick and shaky which went after a while but i had a headache all day which didnt go until i took some painkillers- i hate doing that tho
Hopefully its just our bodies adjusting and you feel better on your next fast

jeniben
Thanks guys - re bovril - do you just use a stock cube in hot water???
Hello Saggyoldcat
You can buy a pot of Bovril & just have a teaspoonful in hot water, it seems to help by replacing some salt & I pretend it is soup at lunchtime. I also save some calories to have a small glass of milk or hot chocolate just before bed that helps me sleep, because I found the first two fasts that getting to sleep was difficult for me. Ok now though!
Good luck with your next fast day.

Your body will adjust to the change in your eating habits, feeling yukky, headaches and wanting to wee more. It will get better, hang in there. Been there, got the tshirt etc. Good luck.
:D I feel fit as a fiddle now
