Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

New member just saying hello!

Hello everyone!
I've just joined, but have been on the 5:2 diet since August 2012. My reason for taking up the diet was to be able to maintain my weight and still have fun by going out for dinner and drinks with friends, plus I love food so I find its perfect to fit two calorie restricted days arouynd my social life and not worry about it the rest of the week! If I feel like I've put on weight I'll do an extra fast day to help maintain :)

I find it easy to stick to now. The first few fasts were hard but you soon learn that you can cope with the hunger and it comes and goes in waves rather than builds. I used to have trouble sleeping at first, which I've noticed a lot of people report, but that no longer happens at all. The morning after a fast I don't tend to feel hungry until I start eating, and I only want savoury - later in the day I crave sugar, does anyone else get this??

Anyway, I think its great to hear about other peoples experiences and advice on this, so I love the fact that this group has been started!

Hi Castle & welcome!
Always nice to welcome a new long term 5:2er to our group. If you have a record of your weight loss since you started it would be great if you'd add your data to the progress tracker to aid our stats & charts!

I've also been doing this since August and find it easy now. Most of the time I don't feel especially hungry, until I start to eat. Some feed days I want sweet, some I want savoury. There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason to it! Guessing it's somehow hormonal?
Hi Moogie,

Hormones are probably not a bad shout! I think its great that you are compiling stats, it would be nice to see the progress people can make with the 5:2 plan. However I haven't been using it to lose weight so I have stayed a steady 56/7kg since I started. I think I tend to eat/drink back my calories at the weekend! I might start taking measurements (e.g. waist) though as I swear I've lost in terms of inches, do you think it can somehow encourage muscle gain? I feel slimmer and firmer which is nice :)
