Stock Cube Drinks...Seriously?
21 Feb 2013, 16:41
Just a thought about the stock cube drink. People really drink stock cubes? Seems mad! I can't imagine it - surely it'd taste strong and salty?
I've not tried it but it's one of the low cal hot drinks which a lot of folks seem to recommend - along with bovril and marmite! I guess they help you to feel like you've eaten something as they're savoury, but are far lower cal than soup.
I can't quite believe it either but I can see why I might do it - that salty taste is what I crave on fast days. Miso soup is supposed to be good too.
You can get a tub of Marigold bouillon which is organic and low salt version, as the ordinary one is too salty for me. One teaspoon with hot water makes a mug of clear veg broth, which I find really tasty and satisfying. Would never fancy just a drink from an oxo cube though. If you didn't like it as a drink, can use as extra flavour when cooking mince etc.

Salty yes, that's why you drink it, but otherwise it's just like a thin cupasoup
It's just stock so no different to drinking chicken noodle soup for example obv without the noodles, really tasty actually!
I quite often have an oxo, sometimes chicken, sometimes beef. I've always seen an Oxo as a drink as well as a gravy - my dad used to drink them when I was younger (his other favourite was cabbage bray - yuk! But I imagine its probably quite good for you, and tasty if you like cabbage).
The Marigold bouillon is what keeps my husband going through his fast days as he doesn't drink tea or coffee! On cold days it's the only warm thing he'll have.
I personally rather stick to herbal drinks as the flavour of it makes me think of food, and then that makes me hungry! I find I manage better throughout the day if go 'cold turkey' on food and have nothing and don't think about it.
I am struggling today, need to get doing something to take my mind off it - nearly gave in and ate just now.... but had a marigold drink instead .. really helps me.
Yes seriously - an oxo cube makes a great cup a souo at 13 cals per mug!
I love bovril cubes and on a day like today yummy!
