Praying this works...

Hi all, I'm new here. I started out two years ago with four stone to lose and lost it all with Slimming World by last summer. However I've put back on a stone and just can't keep up the SW way of life. I crave goodies too much. Or if not goodies just that extra bowl (or three) of porridge (porridge is my addiction lol!) I'm 5ft 2 and 10st 2 and I'm primarily doing the diet for weight loss.

I've just finished Dr Moseley's book and saw the Horizon programme last summer. I was intrigued then but was worried (and still am if I'm to be honest) that I'd overcompensate on feast days. I guess I'll see. I'm starting today and as it's my first week I want to do 4:3. I intend to fast today, Sunday and Tuesday as I really need the motivation of a reasonable loss in my first week. I've worked out by doing my BMR that a quarter of my daily allowance is 406 cals. I'm going to try today with three small meals and see how that suits...

I'm sitting here with a black coffee and thinking 'bring it on'! Any tips most gratefully received!

Hi Esme & welcome :)

Good luck with 5:2! How did you get on with your 3 small meals? Did you find yourself hungry in the day? A lot of us find that once we eat, we feel hungry all day - so we save all our cals for dinner!

Try to get out of the mindset that a specific loss or attaining a goal weight will affect what you feel with respect to this way of eating.

It's very variable, both the loss and what you weigh on a daily basis. You have to give it a few weeks and then see how you're going. The natural ups and downs can mask the losses and you really don't need a rollercoaster of emotions when you're hungry! :-)

Thanks for the replies guys, Well the day has gone well. I had three small meals each comprising half a small tin of tuna, a tablespoon of very low fat mayo, balsamic vinegar, cucumber, lettuce and tomato. In the first meal I included a tablespoon of sweetcorn but that worked out to be too many calories so I omitted it for the later meals. It tasted wonderful - and I was only mildly hungry between meals. I also drank loads of black coffee. It was much easier than I had anticipated. Really shocking how much food I cram down everyday without actually needing it!

It's been an enlightening experience to say the least and I've actually enjoyed it which I didn't expect. It was so easy I keep wondering whether I've done it right! But I bought a massive calorie counting 'bible' and weighed everything even the lettuce leaf. I don't expect it always to be that easy but this WOL (I'm getting the lingo already lol!) has got off to a fantastic start. Yes!

It does make you think a bit. I find it affects the feed days, the insights gained on fast days.

Welcome to 5:2. I fasted from supper last night at about 8pm till supper tonight at just after 8,30pm. I've had peppermint tea, jasmine tea, black coffee and almost 2 L of water. Supper was a lamb recipe that I got from a magazine that was reviewing the fasting diet. Vegetables were steamed tender stem broccoli, a tablespoon of ratatouille and Swiss chard with onion and 1 teasp of olive oil. It was so yummy!
I think 1 meal a day on fast days works better for me than 2 or 3 smaller meals through the day.
