New to 5:2

I have followed weight watchers for many years initially losing over 5 stone. I am currently around a stone over my goal weight battling to get rid of it. I saw the programme last year and it made much sense but it is taken me a while to lose my attachment to weight watchers. I live in France where it is very difficult to source diet foods ( which I do not like anyway). I am now following the 5:2 using myfitnesspal to keep track of calories. I also now use the Hairy dieters cookery book which is great. I find the fast days quite easy, my husband does them with me. This is my third week and so far I have not lost any weight. I think this has much to do with my life time of dieting. I will continue with this no matter what the scales say as it is more about health benefits.

Hi Bobshouse and welcome. Totally agree with you that this has so many more benefits than weight loss, it's a new way of life (WOL as they say!). My hubby has joined me in this too - we saw the programme together and agreed instantly that it was a 'no brainer'. I've got far more to shed than he has, but it's nice having someone to do this with - especially as it's more about a life change than a 'diet'. I'm sure that given a bit more time your body will adjust to 5:2 and hopefully you'll shed that stone and get back to your goal weight. I don't use diet foods at all and only use ready meals in a dire emergency, so I wouldn't worry about not being able to source them in France. 99% of our food is made fresh from scratch (thereby also avoiding horse meat  ). Mind you living in France I guess horse meat is readily available (and why not) from your local butcher. However, at least you know what you're buying and from what source ... sorry gone off track there!! Goodluck - hope it all goes well for you

It is a common myth but horse meat is no longer so available as it has gone out of fashion. The little I see is clearly labelled as such. All butchers and supermarkets display a board showing what meat they stock, where it was born, raised, slaughtered and butchered, usually by local farmers. I am fortunate to live on an old farm we are renovating. I cook from scratch too, have free range chickens and ducks, a large veggie patch, apple, pear, cherry and damson trees and hazlenut and walnut......I have to fight the red squirrels for the nuts. I love the fact this eating regime deals with real food. WW has been going ever more down the line of promoting their own products, chemical laden and over priced. I have cancelled my membership and look forward to getting to know you all here. I am back in my size 10 clothes and although I will weigh weekly for now I want to get to the point where I weigh monthly as I do not want my life to be ruled by dieting. I am now enjoying meals out for the first time since moving here over three years ago.
