Hello

Started 5:2 Fast Diet two weeks ago and 4 Fast Days under belt already. Finding Fast Days a doodle keeping to 500 calories but its the over eating on the 'feast days' that I'm feeling guilty about. Not completely bingeing but eating few more chocolates and pic n mix sweets than ever before because I am told in the book I can, but think in reality I can't and really still have to count the calories on the feast days too (which really wanted to get my mind off as you get brain washed with Weight Watchers).

I can relate to several of the Posts on here about the excitement of eating foods which have been off limits for sooooo many years as always dieting. Best diet to date for me was Weight watchers but just can't get back into the swing of it so trying this diet and hoping it's 'the one'... to keep it off and keep it off for good.

Haven't got loads to shift but really want to make this one work as a lifestyle not just for the weight loss.

Thanks for listening!

Hi Elli & welcome to the forums :) All the best with your 5:2 journey!
Hi Elli,
I feel the same about the 'normal eating' days. I started 5:2 this week and did my second fast yesterday, and though the fast days have been manageable I feel a bit guilty about eating whatever I want inbetween. I think its partly because I know that eating whatever I wanted is what has added to being overweight and caused other health issues. Therefore, there is no 'normal 2000 calorie a day' way of eating for me.
The way I have tried to approach it this week has been to try sticking as close to 2000 calories as possible on a 'normal' day and sticking to 500 on a fast day. It has meant that I have had to count calories for the last few days but it has been quite interesting to find out where the surplus calories are coming from, and I am thinking of it as a way of educating myself as to what a 2000 calorie 'normal' diet would be.
Once I get more comfortable with recognising what a 'normal' 2000 calorie plan would be then I will stop counting and just probably use the odd bit of packaging for reference. But for now, I know that my normal diet can't be 2000 calories a day or I wouldn't have so much weight to lose, and I really want this plan to work so I am prepared to calorie count for a while to get all the benefits that i should feel from fasting.

Hope you find a way of dealing with it :)
I feel the same, without counting the calories on feasting days I feel as I am over eating but am finding it really difficult to stop as I haven't been able to eat what ever I fancy for years, I have only got about 7 lbs to loose so does this mean it will be harder than if I had lots of weight to loose? On the up side I am going out for a family meal tomorrow so looking forward to that!.
Hi Moogie and hi ladies... I completely agree and feel the same. Exactly the same in fact. Lets hope counting the calories for a short while on feast days will help in the respect of knowing what a 'normal' day is ... Though knowing what is normal in calorie terms - 2000 or maybe less to quicken it up? Some say 2000 others saying 1400. Just don't want to dive in and eat chips, cake etc moderately when this could be doing more harm than good?

Great to have people to share the 5:2 with to bounce off with ideas
