Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hi to everyone on this site. I joined a few weeks ago but wanted to wait to post until I had something to add! I've been stalking around the site every day and find it very encouraging and interesting as there are so many topics and opinions.
I am following the 5:2 on Mondays and Thursdays and finding it quite doable in the main, although I do find Thursdays hard work. After the weekend when you have eaten and drunk well I am very happy to have a day of comparative abstinence - it suits my Scottish upbringing! So far I have lost 7 pounds in 6 weeks and am quite happy with that as I don't have a lot to lose, maybe another 10 or 11 lbs which would get me back to the weight I feel comfortable with. I moved to France two years ago and I'm afraid that has contributed to my putting on weight and gaining a muffin top. (Honestly I don't eat all that much cheese, but I do like the wine!)
The biggest surprise is that although I haven't lost a huge amount of weight, I have lost 2 and a half inches from my waist which is a huge bonus.
This is a brilliant way of eating and really suits me as I don't feel guilty about the odd French lunch or eating with friends and having to say no to the pudding because I am "doing low carb" etc etc.
Good luck to every one and I will keep posting now that I have had the courage to get started.
Many thanks to Carorees and Moogie who always seem to be there to answer a post quickly to someone who is having a wobbly!
Hi glynis and thanks for such a great first post - sounds like you're doing well and it's nice that you've decided to join in here :)

Keep us informed of how you get on eh? :D
Thanks Moogie
I forgot to say that one of the reasons I started this diet was to benefit from the health issues. I have had high blood pressure for some time now and have been told by the doctor to try and get it down or I may have to start taking tablets. I don't want to go down that road so am hoping that 5:2 will help.
I'll keep you posted!
I hope it helps with your BP, it will be good to see real evidence of health benefits. I'm thinking of asking for some blood tests when I see the doc in the next couple of weeks. I had a load done last summer when I thought something wasn't quite right (turned out to be a virus) and it would be great to have a comparison now as he tested for just about everything!
Hi I have just joined as needing some inspiration to keep going and enjoy reading how others are coping, its a fasting day today and I haven't eaten yet but had to have few glasses of diet coke as I am finding it hard stuck in with the kids (half term) and feel like this is a bit of treat rather than just water, does anyone know if this is ok? I know we should stick to water or herbal tea.
Hi Jennifer!
I only started 5:2 this week and am just finding my way around the plan too.
From what I have read it seems that people tend to avoid Diet drinks if they are concerned about the artificial sweeteners being a trigger for eating sugary foods, but not for any proven reason which helps or hinders on this way of eating.
Personally, I have had a couple of glasses of Diet Pepsi on my fast days this week, and I feel like they helped me with the cravings for a biscuit or desert after my 500 cal dinner. Without that (artificial)sweet fix I am sure I would have been climbing the walls!
Hope you survive the trial of half-term :)
Thanks for reply, I have nearly made it through my fasting day with some calories left for a choc biscuit and a cup of tea in a little while, dreaming about what I am going to eat for breakfast! Lol
