Hello Everyone,
I'm reasonably new to fasting, a work friend introduced me to it after watching the Drs show. It intrigued me, and I started at the beginning of January. Sadly, I didn't weigh myself at the beginning, so my progress is a little vague. I last weighed myself in july last year. I weighed myself three weeks into the fasting and lost 6lbs.

That could've been down to a combination of things. Anyway, I weighed my self five weeks into fasting and I'd lost a further 3lbs, so it seems to be working for me.
I've read a lot around the internet of people not coping, and I'm finding it quite easy so far. I'm not saying that to gloat, because I might be doing it wrong!

I've been desperate for an answer and have only just found this fine forum.

I've been eating about 200cals for breakfast, 100 at lunch time and 300 for my evening meal. My question is, should I be having lunch? I'm not officially fasting because I'm eating at 8am, 2pm, and 8pm. Is this allowed?

I am new to 5:2 this week but from what i understand from this forum, the Fast Diet book and other related internet stuff it seems to be whatever suits you is fine!
As long as you can maintain just 600 cal on your fast days then you can have them as you please.
Personally - and also from reading the posts on here - there seems to be a lot of support for just having one meal a day, in the evening. For myself it is purely because I know that once I have eaten I will just want to carry on grazing all day, and won't be able to restrict myself to just 500 cal. That first meal will trigger my appetite and the growling of my stomach will be off putting for my workmates for the rest of the day, so as a favour to them I wait until I get home :P

Whatever works for you is what's 'allowed' :) It seems there may be more health benefits from going longer without food and possibly more chance to burn fat stores by going without for longer too, but the keystones of 5:2 are its flexibility and sustainability - so if it works for you and you feel as if you can keep going like that in the long term, then it's right!

Personally I find myself too hungry all day if I start eating early so now I save all my cals for a dinner, going without food for around 24 hours from dinner the previous day until my 500cal fasting dinner!
Thanks for the reassurance guys. I'm weighing myself every fortnight now, and due tomorrow. I think if I find that I'm no longer losing, I might change it up. I'll have to start filling in some data, the site seems like a great place!
Come to think of it, does 100 cal cuppa soup count as a meal or a snack!?
