Hi everyone

Just wanted to say "hello" i'm new to 5:2 - a lady at work was doing it and had lost half a stone in 3 weeks so i read up on it and started last week.

I am 46 and 5ft 8 and was 14st 2lb's - I have been doing Slimming world for 6 months and lost a measley sum of 4 lb's!!! I kept losing and putting on the same darn pound for weeks. I really thought i was maybe too old to lose weight as it just wouldn't shift not even with doing zumba 3 x a week and walking for half hour every lunch time at work.

Then on MOnday i started this diet - my fast days were Monday and Thursday. Fasting was hard but doable especially as you know you can eat the next day! I did however find i was very cold (mind you the temperatures have dropped somewhat since i started lol).

My first feed day after my first fast day was a bit crazy i.e. I couldn't stop eating all day long but made wise food choices. I didn't count cals and more or less ate when i felt hungry. My other feed days i found i could go longer without food i.e. i wasn't hungry until way gone lunch so i went with that too!

I weighed in on Friday and I lost 3lb's :) so happy that I CAN STILL LOSE WEIGHT lol
And am buzzing for this week - been food shopping and bought some low cal things in prep for my fast days. Week 2 = bring it on!
Hi TracE and congrats for the loss. I agree that there is a 'buzz' to following the 5:2 principles...the thought of being able to eat whatever you want on the day after a fast is wonderful and a thought that I have found gets me through the fasts. They are definitely becoming easier for me which seems to be the norm. Keep it up...we can do it :)
You ground like you're absolutely loving this! It's great to hear how much this has you buzzing. I started this past week too and like you, I'm loving it. I've not weighed myself yet though. Maybe you've finally found the plan that not only works for you but you also enjoy.

I think you're right about making wise choices on your feast days. There's no point in being disciplined on your fast days then going off the rails on the other 5 days if the week. Like you, I find that I want to make wise choices now instead of choosing rubbish. I do still like a piece of chocolate however I haven't gorged so far this week, which is what I'd been doing in the past.

It's great that you're planning ahead and buying low cal things for next week.

Wat did you eat on you fast days? I wasn't as organised as I'd like to be for my first 2 fast days so I want to be organised next week.

Good luck next week. I'm sure the motivation you have at the moment will keep you going and you will have a great week. I really think this is a much better way of eating. Is not a diet where you're constantly having to count everything, you only have to really do it on your fast days, while making wise codes on your feast days. Mum still trying to watch what I eat on my feast days as I don't want to eat to much, I want to lose weight!
Thanks for your replies and good luck to us all :)

Chickadee - on my fast days i drank bucket loads of twinnings green tea with apple and pear with sweetners.

I had low fat greek yogurt and raspberries with sweetner about mid day! Along with an apple then had some carrot sticks in the afternoon with small amnount of roasted onion houmous - then at about 5pm i had Weight watchers chicken chow mein (its lovely) and only 280 cals i think cant quite remember followed by a sugar free jelly and later had an options hot chocolate!

I also had salmon and salad on my other fast day (love salmon) :)
