Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Newbie! - Easily distracted!!
27 Feb 2013, 07:51
Hi everyone,

I'm Sophie, I'm 32 and mother to two children, aged 4 and 6.
This is my fourth week doing the 5:2 diet, but last week I only did 1 fast day (school holidays marred my willpower!). I am easily discouraged and distracted unfortunately and so I have joined this group to try and help me keep it up and maybe help others with a similar disposition! :P
Hi Sophie & welcome :)
I think a lot of mums found it tough during half term, don't worry about it - most of us have had a week where we've had to skip a fast or rejig them. One of the keystones of 5:2 is its flexibility, so it's all good. There's always next week.

I'm going to turn your negative point about being distracted into a positive and say that if you're easily distracted that should help you get through your fast days more easily - just keep distracting yourself so you don't feel hungry :)

We're all here to encourage you and by all means come along on your fast days to chat with fellow fasters and keep on the straight and narrow :D
Hi sophieh - welcome to this happy band. When my youngsters were that age I'd have wrapped them up warmly and got myself out (the park is a wonderful place) - fresh air, exercise and away from the kitchen all in one! As Moogie says - keep yourself distracted away from your hungry - Good luck, hope it goes well for you.
Hi sophieh - I'm a newbie too. Started 5:2 at the end of January but just joined the forum last weekend :-). I've found the fast days a bit of a challenge at times and I think the forum is great help, the other members are very supportive. Distraction is a key and I think that using the tracker is really encouraging and useful as well.
Good luck!
I've found If I plan ahead it helps me on fast days. My next fast day is tomorrow and my little girl is with her daddy from tonight until tomorrow evening so I have a plan of giving my house a spring clean!! I have an upstairs cupboard still full of stuff in boxes from when I moved 20months ago!!! Hopefully that will keep me busy for a while and away from food!!
