lost 3.5 gained 1lb

Hi everyone,
I have been watching this forum for a couple of weeks and want to say its very informative.
I have been on 5.2 for 3 weeks now, first week weight stayed the same, second week lost 3.5 lbs and this week gained a pound. I am looking at 5.2 as more of a lifestyle change than a diet so I am not too concerned about slow weight loss, however I find myself trying not to eat too much on non fast days. Is this likely to help or hinder my progress?

Hi Stanna :)

I think the best advice I can give is for you to listen to your body - doing 5:2 seems to help a lot of us learn to tell the difference between hunger and thirst, as well as when we just want to eat because we're bored or we fancy something. So, listen to what your body tells you - eat if you are hungry, don't restrict yourself on feed days but don't gorge yourself just because you can eat anything you like (the key here is *anything* not *everything* - you can eat any foods, just don't go on a crazy binge every day and you'll be fine).

A lot of users seem to notice a bit of variation in their first few weeks, usually a loss, a stay the same and a slight re-gain (water weight) and not necessarily in that order.

Just eat as you would normally eat (ie the way you were eating before 5:2, unless you were severely restricting your calorie intake each day?), you only have to change the way you eat 2 days a week.

Thankyou moogie, I think I just need to relax and not think about calories all week. I don't tend to overdo it on feast days, if anything I think I may have been trying to cut too many calories.

That's just it, relax and it should all take care of itself! :) Don't worry too much about one week's weigh in, just keep an eye on the bigger picture over a longer time period.

Our bodies are goofy things that can seem to gain and lose for no reason at all. Water is often the culprit.

Compound that with the fact our home scales simply aren't all that accurate. Have you ever stepped on the scale, gotten a weight, stepped off the scale, waited for it to reset, stepped back on and gotten a different weight? I happens to me.

I watch for trends, and I "keep" the lowest number my scales show me, and I watch for the numbers to trend down over time. I don't necessarily worry about a week to week fluctuation if I know I'm doing what I should. I would give it more time than that, myself :-)

So yeah, what Moogie said! ;-)
