Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Posting for two

We are a couple in our 50s and 60s starting the 5:2 diet together for better health. My husband has been talking about this diet for over a week now and after researching, we have decided to give it a try.

I have lost 80+ .lbs 3 times in my life - the last time using one of those horrible and horribly expensive pre-packaged meals. My husband on the other hand, has always been able to maintain a healthy weight until he reached his 60s when it started to slowly creep up on him. He doesn't have very much to lose, maybe 20 .lbs, but I would like to lose the 40 I have put back on since returning to eating "normal food". I have gained and lost the same 10 .lbs 3 years in a row. It's time to find something that will work as a lifestyle change that we can stick to.

Looking forward to some positive changes.

Welcome to the forum. I have been 5:2ing for a month now so 8 fasts completed so far. I find I become less hungry on fast days by just having drinks ie black coffee, water and Bovril until my supper time of about 400 calories & save some calories for a bedtime hot chocolate to help me sleep. I am aged 65 & I have found fasting this way very easy. My husband & I are off on holiday for two weeks & when we return he will join me 5:2ing. He is a Type 2 Diabetic so will get his bloods done for a baseline record before starting & he has less weight than me to lose about 1 & 1/2 stone whilst I have 5 stone to go. Good luck with your fast days.

Hi on-my-way and Isis

I'm a guy in my 70s and I've been IFing for over 12 months, now. Lost 22lbs over several months without even trying. And now, for the first time in my adult life I'm in complete control over my weight - I don't need to lose any more, so I'm just maintaining, with 1 and a half fasts per week.

Best wishes to all four of you! :D
