Another newbie

Hi all. I am really excited to have discovered this forum and, after having read only a few posts, am already fired up with renewed enthusiasm.

Hubby and I have been following the diet since the beginning of the year, with mixed results. My weight fluctuates quite a bit, but he has lost around 12lbs so far, which of course is really annoying :curse: .

I am not going to get disheartened though - my holiday is only 8 weeks away and I need to fit into my shorts!

Good luck everyone.

Welcome RD :D Sounds like your hubby is doing great! Does he have more weight to shift than you? Maybe we can help improve your results if you tell us a little more about yourself and how you've been doing 5:2?

I'm going out today but am sure others will be able to step in with a little advice & encouragement!

Hi Moogie. Thanks for the welcome.

Hubby doesn't have that much extra weight at all. He is tall with a slim frame and just had a bit of a pot belly, which has now all but disappeared.

I am usually fasting Mondays and Thursdays, having cuppa soup at lunch, and a calorie counted dinner. Since my progress is slow, I am now trying to reduce my intake on the inbetween days too, in the hope that that will do the trick. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm also new on here today having been doing 5:2 since February 1st. In January I started with a well known diet and lost 4lbs and 4 inches - doing 5:2 I've lost 8lbs and 4 inches in a month so from Jan 1st - 12lbs and 8 inches in total. I'm just really annoyed it's taken me til the age of 40+ to find something that really works.

Another 7lbs and I'm my lightest in 7 years :like:

@reluctant-dieter - It'll only take as long as it needs to - as long as we get there it doesn't matter :-)

@ Chelseadieter - wishing you all the best - are you going to weigh weekly or monthly?

I started this week too, the first day wasn't too bad but the second was really hard! I work in an office and two of my colleagues decided to go and get fish and chips and eat them in front of me, would have been ok any other time but the smell nearly killed me :(
Having had my first weigh in yesterday and losing 2.2lbs Im going to stick with it as I only want to lose a stone - just need to find better ways of using my 500 calories!
Good luck to you all - maybe as newbies we could support each other??

Thanks everyone - I'm all for supporting each other!
I'm going to weigh weekly but I do get disheartened if the numbers ont move down so am measuring as well - and just going by how clothes fit and how I'm feeling.
I only managed one fast day so far as I started on Wednesday and had work event Friday and just couldn't face on weekend :-(
But I have been really very good and have been to the gym twice this weekend and haven't binged! Just going my My Fitness Pal and calorie deficit I should be down almost a kilo by Wednesday morning (weigh in). But now I'm wondering if I'm being too strict and gung-ho about my feed days and not eating enough?? I have definitely found it easier to say no to fatty snacks since starting this. But that means I'm only clocking in 1200 calories on feed days...
How is everyone else finding it?

Morning all. I started using My Fitness Pal yesterday and discovered at bedtime that I had had one cup of coffee too many, which took me over 500 cals. I think that's maybe where I've been going wrong before. I have been under-estimating cals in a cup of white coffee, so hopefully now that I know I will be able to stay on track. It's so easy to forget to count your drinks. I too am going to try to stick to 1200 on feed days, or at least if I use the counter I will be able to see if I am overeating on those days.

Happy feed/fast day everyone!

I am new to this as well. I have ordered the book and it is on its way. I do have a couple of questions though. Is it ok to fast on 2 consective days or do they need to be split up? Fiber tabs and a appetite control pill, are these ok to take as well on your fast days?

Evening 5:2ers! I have been fasting today and it's my first one of my second week. I *think* I had lost 2lbs when I weighed yesterday morning, but am not too worried and stressing about seeing any significant drop until maybe next week.

I don't usually do slimming ready meals, but I am thinking it's maybe easier to do that for dinner rather than worrying about ingredients and weighing/cooking in the evening.

I had Alpen bar 70cals for breakfast and made a lovely butternut squash soup which I calculated at 80cals/serving for lunch. Just enjoyed M&S Simply fuller meal and it was delish at 300cals!

Haven't felt hungry today even though I have trekked around the shops, so I feel I have got the balance right.
