I'm a newby

Hi there
I have been doing the 5:2 eating plan for 5 weeks now. I refuse to call it a diet as I don't do diets anymore!! Used to do them all the time and over the years I have yo yo'd and as Michael Mosley says have always put back the lost weight and more. I love this new eating plan and am just finishing my second fasting day of the week and really looking forward to having a bacon sandwich tomorrow morning! I love this fasting because it also means that I have 2 alcohol-free days a week and I wouldn't be able to keep to that any other way. To date I have lost 5kg, losing an average of 0.8kg per week but the biggest surprise is that I have already lost 3 inches from my waist!! I'm looking for inspiration from other forum users and specifically more 500 cal recipes to supplement the ones in the book. I am retired now and find that if I have a busy day then surprise surprise I don't feel as hungry so am planning on keeping really busy on my 2 fasting days. Well that's all for now and I really look forward to hearing from some of you

Hi Janet & welcome :) Sounds like you're doing great so far! If you've kept a log of your weekly losses/measurements it would be great if you could enter them in the progress tracker to help us get a better picture of how 5:2 works for different types of people.

When you say 500 cal recipes do you mean single recipes for around 500 cals or do you have a breakfast/dinner combo on your fast days?

I've just had a lovely 'mock roast' tonight for around 400 cals but am looking forward to some cereal or porridge in the morning :)

Hi Moogie
I have posted my beginning weight and this weeks and will update the rest of the numbers. I weigh myself once a week, same day same time and in my pyjamas. Along with information I got from the book I am eating my 500 cals in 2 meals and space them through the day so that my body fasts for as long as possible in between. So usually have about 140 cals for brunch, which I eat around 11.30am and then eat the rest of my cals at Supper time which I eat around 6ish, tnen nothing more until breakfast the next morning, I drink 2 cups of tea with a little skimmed milk in the morning and then just water and herbal teas all day. I treat myself to some sparkling water with supper, in a wine glas, which make me feel better as on a non fasting day I will have a couple of glasses of red wine with my meal. I excercise 3 times a week for 20 mins on my cross trainer, again following Michael Mosley's 3 minute workout! I love that man!!! I have just started to do line dancing for a bit more excercise and am just starting to feel more energetic!! I was diagnosed with an NHL cancer in 2006 and had aggresive chemotherapy and radiotherapy which has destroyed my immune system and energy levels and it is really good to be feeling better after starting this wonderful eating plan!!
