Newbie now on day 8 of diet
10 Mar 2013, 19:08
Hi I have 6-7 stone to lose. I am hoping this may be the solution. My tdee suggests I should eat about 640 cals on fast days

Started diet last Sunday and have completed 3 fast days in the last 8 days. I have lost about 5.5lbs  which is very exiting.

Immeditately after the first fast I felt a lot less bloated. Looking forward to fitting in nicer clothes again and getting fitter. On top of the fasting, I have done 4 lots of exerise over the last week or so

Hoping the forum here will help me stay on track

Welcome!

I'm in it for the long haul as well, I have quite a bit to lose before I'm no longer obese. But thanks to the diet, I've now shrunk down below Morbidly Obese for the first time in a long time :-) I think this could be the diet for me because it seems just so much easier to sustain. I'm no longer obsessing about food all of the time, like I was on Weight Watchers. I only have to really exert willpower for about 4 hours on each fast day (it seems to be easy for me until about 2pm, and I just have to make it until dinner at 6pm, then I'm golden!). "Tomorrow" I can always have that delicious treat, if I want it :-)

The forum is so vital to me for staying on track. I sometimes spend the majority of my fast days on here, soaking in all of the positive energy!

I'm also feeling better and starting to exercise more. I also have a local patisserie that I now visit relatively guilt free -- I just make sure to park the car at least 1/2 mile away so I'm getting a bit of a walk in as well.

I hope you like it here!

Thanks Tracie - yes I am looking forward to being in a more healthy weight range. I really like the idea of reducing my heart attack risk, diabetes, alzheimers and cancer risk - and of course looking good and being more active

Hi Newme,
What a great name! That's what i'm aiming for as well - a "new me" and to lose quicker than average, as i have plenty to lose!! I'm in a similar BMI to you. I started Calorie Counting and exercising - Jan7 and lost 12kg in about 8 weeks. Then i saw Dr M, being interviewed on telly and quickly investigated his ideas, I was interested in the health benefits he spoke about in addition to weight loss. I bought the book and only yesterday saw the Horizon show - downloaded (I'm in Australia) so we haven't seen his Eat, Fast, live longer doco, however we have seen the Exercise one. So i'm still recording calories as well as fasting and i do weigh daily, so i can get a sense of what works best. I notice if i eat a meal out on the odd occasion - sensibly NOT gorging and have a glass or two of wine my weight shoots up by a kilo or even more the following day, so i'm not prepared to abandon calorie counting and fast then feed "as normal" as i don't think i would shift too much weight at all. How do you organise your eating? I'm interested to see how your days go because you are doing SO well!! Keep up the great effort! ..Marie

Hi Marie - I am now at 28 days since I started and have lost 13.5lbs. You can add me as a friend on mfp if you want and then you will be able to see my food diary. You will see some days I am good, and some days I have a blow out. I am getting away with it though on this diet. That said, I do still count my calories as I want to lose weight - and I am trying to exercise at least 4 times a week. I can now control my eating whereas before I started this I was having another 1000 calories through the night because I wasn't sleeping. All of that has now improved.

I'm still counting calories and exercising too. I haven't been on 5:2 long enough to see a pattern yet. So I'm not sure if I can do the treats eats. I know if I eat carefully at a restaurant and have 2-3 glasses of wine my weight spikes the next day and takes over a week,of very low cal 1250-1450 to return. So I'm not ready to try eating the TDEE as yet.
I've lost a total 15 kgs since January 7 as I said in the earlier post with CR.
I hoping to eventually be more flexible in this WOE and trusting that it will work as well as others are finding it.
Thanks for replying.

Nice to put a face to your mfp friend request. I am now at 17.8lbs lost and what is nice is that I am not having to buy special diet foods to do it. My wedding rings fit today - I haven't been able to wear them for 6 months!
