New to site and diet
11 Mar 2013, 06:43
Hello,
I started the 5:2 diet last week. I started because it sounds like something I can do. My last visit to the doctor was list of warnings: bordering on high cholesterol, high blood sugar and high blood pressure. I work at a computer all day...sit sit sit. So my goal is to not take pills. I have until August to see a change in my numbers.
I found this forum and it is so encouraging to have real people tell their stories and support each other.
Thanks for being here!!

Hi Appia

I'm new to the site and diet as well, and starting my first fast today!

My blood pressure has always been on the low side and as I consume very little animal products my cholesterol should be low too: however I do need to get rid of a lot of weight (45lbs), a lot of it sitting around my internal organs :frown:

Good luck

Good luck To you both with your first fast (or repair or 'rest') day ... Am sure you will find this forum so so useful and encouraging and hope you soon feel the benefits of this way of life. Remember no matter what your cravings are, or how you feel, it is ONLY FOR ONE DAY AT A TIME and that tomorrow you can have whatever was tempting you today..... But you probably won't want it anyway ! My fifth fast day today and am almost looking forward to it . Had a weekend of totally random and unhealthy eating and felt bloated and lethargic. I know today I will feel much more energetic and positive ..... I think we need to be more in touch with our stone age selves who did not have access to constant supply of food which we sometimes (and in my case almost always) eat without really savouring or thinking about it. You'll probably find that you think really carefully about your body   today and will be aware of every mouthful you take ... In a good way.

hi to you all three- we are all in the same boat here, some row faster than others but we all have the same goal in mind- weight loss and better health. And the brilliant thing is as appia said "it is something I can do"- we are in control, it is easy to be flexible to fit round the rest of our lives and we don't have to buy special food or pay for slimming clubs. Enjoy the freedom and stay in control of your own boat!!! My partner and I have been doing this now for over 6 weeks and lost 7lbs each- have been on holiday and not put it back on but even managed to keep most fast days. Good luck to you all- keep coming here and checking in- let us know how you get on!!ursula

Thanks so much for your comments! It is a fasting day for me, I decided to do Mondays & Thursdays and this is my third fasting day. My first two went OK as I was fairly busy and usually don't get hungry until noon. It was a relief not to force myself to eat breakfast. I think what is so interesting is that I have to pay attention to my snacking. I made cookies for my son to bring to school on one of my non-fast days and that didn't work out well. I ate 5 cookies in under 5 minutes, before the little voice in my head said alright stop! Today I've eaten 1/4c oatmeal and am drinking tea. All's well.
Thanks again for the support, it means a lot.
