Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hi,

I am another newbie, but feel as though as I must have been living in a black hole as I only heard about the 5:2 diet on Sunday, and started it on Monday (yesterday) with my first fast. I am pleased that survived, but feel that I might have obsessed a bit much about food on Day 1, and I'm going to have to cut that out if I am to succeed.

I have to confess that I hate dieting, and I have very little time for people who calorie count, buy reduced fat sausages and that sort of thing. However, as my BMI and age suggest, I am, despite my nonchalance, getting larger and larger each year, and whilst I may not want to diet (who does) I am drawn to the 5:2 diet not only for weight loss, but for potential positive health benefits too. :geek:

Co-incidentally, this morning I awoke without a stuffy nose and runny eyes for the 1st time ever - could this be a direct benefit of my 1st fast? Fingers crossed.

So I am really glad that I found this forum as I really need this diet to succeed (where all others, undertaken at least 10 years ago, have failed).

Tips, advice (and support) will all be greatfully received
I was the same. I never had time for diets as very few people ever seemed to use them to actually make long-term changes. I just couldn't see the point.

5:2 was the first diet that actually seemed like a workable lifestyle to me, and despite not being 100% sold on the "live longer" science, I started the day after watching Michael Mosley's documentary. Getting on for half a year later I'm still gradually losing weight, and hope to break into the "normal" BMI range for my height in the next few weeks.

My main piece of advice is "read the FAQ." The wonderful carorees has assembled answers to the most commonly asked questions, but it seems that no-one ever reads them as they continue to be asked again and again!
