Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hi

I started the diet yesterday with my first fast day, I did start without doing enough research, and as a result had 3 small meals, but only had 488 calories in the day.

Has anyone had success with still eating 3 times a day, or am I best to do the Bovril idea at lunchtime so it's not really a meal.

I am keen to lose around 2lbs a week, so I am going to try and stick to 1500 calories on my fast days, but not beat myself up if I go over. I get married at the end of August, and want to be 2 or 3 stone lighter so I can look at my photos forever without wishing I had tackled my weight.

I'm starting at 12st 6lbs, weighed myself this morning (I know I should wait for the end of the week) and I am 2lbs down, so fingers crossed that is maintained throughout this first week.
Hi & welcome MrsBod!

It doesn't really matter how you split your calories, you should still lose weight :) Many of us however have found it is easier to go without all day until dinnertime so we don't get our appetite started early in the day and feel hungry! If you can go longer without food (be it from breakfast to dinner, skipping breakfast or skipping lunch & breakfast!) it may well be more beneficial.
Whatever works for you! My theory is that if it's primarily weight loss you are interested in, then it really doesn't matter how you split your calories on a fast day - but watch what you eat on other days. Whereas if it's the other benefits of fasting you are after, then the longer period of time between meals the better, and what you eat on other days is less important.

Now, that's just my theory, there's as yet very little studies on the impact that different approaches have. But I'd say be gentle on yourself to start off - do whatever you need to to get through your first few fasts, then you can start making adjustments.
Thanks for your replies, I think I will see how I get on with my second fast tomorrow and then maybe see about trying it a different way for my second lot of fasts
I have done the three meal a day thing and have done 12lbs since 29th January. I'm happy with the results and am even happier because I am still having three meals a day. Its all about what is good and works for you.
