Calories on feed days
13 Mar 2013, 19:08
I know calories aren't restricted on feed days but what would be a ballpark figure for the amount a woman should eat? Would it be 2000 as is the recommended amount as surely it's not unlimited (I hope this isn't a stupid question)

If you want to know for sure, you can calculate your TDEE (Todal Daily Energy Expenditure) which is based on your height, weight, age and estimated physical activity.

Thanks Tracie that's really useful and interesting, it was just that in the book it keeps going on about eating 'normally' and I'm thinking, 'well one person's normal is another's binge-eating'

I think the book refers to 2000, as an average for women

I've said before on this forum, that if our 'normal' was the 'normal' referred to in the book, then we wouldn't be needing to lose our surplus weight! I checked my TDEE recently and it is 1600 - because I get very little exercise (I'm a very idle person!) It's no wonder that my weight goes up and down like the proverbial yo-yo! I try not to count calories on non-fasting days (it has been something of an obsession in the past) but am aware of not eating too much over my TDEE. Good luck with your weight loss adventure!

I'll never count calories on my feed days. For me that defeats the whole purpose of this plan. Dr. M in the FastDiet tells us our appetites are retrained through fasting, and it's so true. I can't believe I don't overeat on my feed days. It still amazes me. Studies have been done showing that folks who do alternate fasting do not overcompensate on the days they eat.

Yes, I'm not about to count mine either on feed days. These fasts seem to be doing a great job of teaching my body what a reasonable portion is ;-) But if someone is so inclined, I don't see the harm in making sure they're coming somewhere near the ballpark.

Thanks for the link to the TDEE calculator. I'm on my second fast and had been wondering about my TDEE. Now I will know if I'm actually going overboard or not eating enough on feed days.
