Joined a little while ago now and been enjoying the conversations. I am now in my second week with my 4th fast day tomorrow. My husband is taking part too and we are supporting each other. My biggest issue so far is with hunger; it rather takes over and leaves me unable to concentrate and very irritable.

This forum is a fantastic resource and I am so looking forward to learning about this way of eating for life.

Hi Cerise and welcome! :)

It's nice to have someone at home for support, isn't it.

Hi Jemima
Yes, especially when I wonder why I started this!

Problem is that as a perimenopausal woman, I have been conditioned to eat every 3 hours and I am finding it hard to break out of this habit.

Hi Cerise,
I can sympathize with you about the hunger thing, I skip breakfast, then have lunch, and usually by about 4 I am starving. I have been having a tangerine at 25 cals about then, but a lady on here called Gilly had a good tip... i you can afford the cals...weigh out 100cals of some cereal like shreddies to snack on throughout the day when you are really hungry! I am gonna try this! hope it helps. you could also do 3 meals, like a slice of toast 100cals with 1x laughing cow lightest triangle@ 20 cals for breakfast. then some vegetable soup for lunch at about 100cals. then a 2 egg ommlette @ 160cals and still have 100 cals left for whatever

Hope this helps x

I had a snack before bed last night and have had nothing but liquids all day with no hunger pangs.
Before this I started having hunger pangs during the day when I ate early on fast days.

Thank you both for your ideas. Today is my 4th fast day and I started with a low-cal cooked breakfast instead of blueberries/yogurt/ham. Much better idea as I wasn't crawling up the walls by 1 pm! I have just had a small serving of home-made tomato soup (200 ml serving 68 kcal) and we will have prawn stir-fry for supper. So today, I will have just over 500 kcal, but it looks like I will feel much better.

Unlike my husband, I need three meals a day. When he was younger, he spent years skipping lunch, so he has adapted quite quickly to this regime.

I'll link to my blog Dancingatlunacy later on - I started off doing 3 meals AND snacks, so it is certainly feasabile, with a bit of planning.

I found radishes and celery sticks, or other raw veg, were/ are great for nibbling on when you feel hungry, and they have minimal calories.
