Newbie going 5:2
15 Mar 2013, 13:22
Hello, my fist post, I've been 5:2 intermitent fasting for two weeks now and joined the forums for
Support.
Am finding the diet/lifestyle generally pretty easy so far!
I want to loose around 10 kg I'm a 6"4 talk guy weight at 112.8 and am down to 111.2 already so it's working!
In no hurry to loose the weight and I've yoyoed before doing various diets . The most successful was dukan but its just so u heathy with all the protien and I always felt crap on that diet.

My comments so far on the 5:2 are that I have lots of energy on fast days and haven't been super hungry. I make mon and Thursday my days but have already altered a day this week cause of a work dinner but this flexibility makes it easier to follow.
I like the other benefits the diet may bring re cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
I am impressed at how already I don't gorge myself on the eating days and My general mood has already been improving.
It is early days but I think this diet is a winner.

Hi & welcome! Great to hear how well you're doing on 5:2 already. It really is a revelation in healthy eating, and a method I think most of us feel we can stick with. I can't help but be amazed every weigh day that I've enjoyed my food all week and still lost weight. Super! :D

Be sure to keep us informed of how you get on, and by all means drop in for a bit of support and encouragement when needed :) Please feel free to log your progress in the tracker, we don't have many male details yet so the more the better!

Thankyou! I will be using the tracker , I've half filled in the info just gotta find a tape measure to do my waist!
Had a not great night last night on a fast day. Saved my calories till 5pm after work and ate all a once then slept for 6 till 11 pm then didn't sleep till 430 am with assistance if a half a restavit tablet (over the counter sleeping pill antihistamine) now feeling weary and sleepy and out of it! But it's Saturday , I've been out for breaky with my wife and I've got nothing to do so ill just have a little nap and I'm sure ill come through ok! It's quite funny how hunger is never really a problem for me. What I struggle with is I get lathargic at night ( fine at work very sharp and focused!) and sleeping hungry doesn't agree with me. I get calf cramps and insomnia . Which is something I'm prone to anyways . Magnesium helped in the past so ill get another bottle for fast days and ill try and save half my calories for near to sleep time maybe.
Anyways it's the weekend and time to enjoy whatever food comes my way!
Another observation is that I'm not that hungry when I break a fast or throughout the day. I tend to savour food more now and I'm aware that a large portion of my eating habits are related to boredom not genuine hunger. Anyways thanks for the reply moogie.

Some people find that saving enough kcals for a glass of milk or a lo-cal hot chocolate just before bed helps them to get to sleep.

Could that be worth a try?

I must say my fast days are getting easier and I'm sleeping better so that's a relief.
I'm taking magnesium supplements to help night leg cramps as well and this seems to be working. My wife Is 5:2ing as well and we work together and we've settled on Mondays and Wednesdays as they aren't too busy at work and it lets us have 4 days of eat days in a row.
The two days feel like I'm doing my body a good deed and hunger is never really a big issue. I get a bit grumpy here and there and mentally fuzzy late in the day but mostly pretty clear and energized especially with all the black coffee I drink at work. ( get pretty hyper actually but it's fun!)
I go swimming in the mornings from mon to thurs and swim a km and never have a problem fasting or eating.
Still early days but it really does feel like a sustainable way of eating! ( the acronym WOE is unfortunate don't you think? The woe of depriving oneself of food lol!)
