Starting tomorrow
17 Mar 2013, 21:18
Hello everyone

A little bit apprehensive about starting the 5:2 diet tomorrow... I am hoping I don't give up halfway through the day !
I have been a constant weight most of my life but within the last 3 years , I have been putting on weight steadily and I can't seem to shift it (I have never been keen on dieting before now).
Last year, I tried a version of the low carb diet and this worked well for me and I lost 2.5 kg within 3 weeks. I was happy with this but I found as soon as I strayed away from the diet, I would put it back on even with going to the gym regularly 2-3 times a week.
I have put all the weight back on again and a little bit more this year !
I am attracted to the lack of rules in the 5:2 diet and hope this will work for me.

I planned to start tomorrow too but got up late and before I knew it, it was 11.30 and I hadn't eaten, decided to start today, and it was easier than I thought. It helped that I had planned my meals in advance.

Be gentle with yourself about it. I was just very determined about it, and knew that I wanted to do it, so it wasn't a struggle really - a bit like stopping smoking many years ago. I was fed up with pain in my legs, and rolls of fat on my belly, so wanted weight off my joints and a body to be proud of again. Hence - 6 months later, and 1 stone 9 pounds lighter it is a win win situation. Keep strong, and come on to the forum for support - you can do it, I did! And remember, you will get hungry, but it doesn't build and build, it is just like a background hum - and you will get to like the feeling believe it or not. I am relieved it is my fast day tomorrow after over indulgence this weekend - it is nice to know what I am doing tomorrow re: food, and takes a lot of stress out of the day. Cheaper shopping bills too! Good luck.....

ps - keep drinking hot water through the day, especially when hunger kicks in, it really takes the edge off, and you feel really good cleansing your body.

Hi everyone
Just a quick update....morning started well and I resisted temptation at break time to buy a cake. Finished lunch (small tomato soup and melon) and it was okay....however I think I'm obssessing over dinner a little :-)
Thanks for all your encouragement.

Keep it up, you're doing great! I'm hoping that over time I'll stop obsessing over my next meal but was easier than I thought yesterday and I feel good today:)

You will stop thinking about food as much, this has been one of the big revelations to me. It is also a part of the whole dysfunction which such a lot of us have around food. We wake up thinking what to eat, what we plan to eat, food food food. This way of eating has made food so much less of a focus in my life, a much healthier way of being and thinking. Keep going you 'newbies', you will be so proud of yourselves I promise.

It's good to know, Vickievee that tomorrow will be better but Sand is right ... I do think about food a lot --- I don't remember always being like this but I know now I wake up thinking what am I having for brekkie .
My next day is thursday and I can't wait to finish this week to see if there will be a difference.
I did find I was really tired today at the end of the day though (more so than normal) and I did not make it to the gym. I had to sleep when I came back from work !
I might make the diet days non gym days.Do any of you find that your body adjusts to it?
Thanks again for all the support.

I was tired on my fast day yesterday, but haven't found that usually, in fact often I exercise more on fast days. I used to worry about blood sugars not being high enough but now know that not to be true. Yesterday was a toughie in lots of ways - low energy and mood and definitely wanted to eat to distract myself. Sat with it though, and found some more things out about myself and my relationship with food. It is why I have been carrying 2 stone extra weight most of my adult life!
