New to 5:2 and fasting tomorrow
17 Mar 2013, 21:41
Hi all.
I am starting the 5:2 with first fast tomorrow. For years ad no problem with weight and now as I get older it's sticking and not shifting. I have realised that I regularly overeat without noticing and now am struggling to keep at my "normal" daily calorie levels.

I am still trying to work out the best time of day to start - whether i should count from tonight and go through to tomorrow night or start fresh in the morning at breakfast time. what time of day works best for you? Does anyone split their days?
Welcome to the forums!

There is no splitting days. I see some people talk about "24 hours" and I think they misunderstand something.

You go to bed. You wake up and may have 500 calories between now and the next morning.

You have a normal day or three and then repeat.

I highly doubt you will see any results if you fast from noon to noon, or 9pm to 9pm.
You can split your days - as long as you fast for 3 meals worth of time. If you have lunch, you can then fast till dinner next day. Or if you have breakfast, fast till lunch next day. I usually fast now from dinner on Sunday night till lunch time Monday, and then have my 500 cals split between lunch and dinner on Monday night. Read the Fast Diet by Michael Mosley, or see some other posts in other sections, it is all explained.
Thanks all. I reckon then my fast started at midnight and will end tomorrow at breakfast. Am desperate for a fruit salad but will have that as my breakfast treat tomorrow. I think I will stick with easy stuff like cuppa soup for lunch and yoghurt for breakfast then have a small dinner of mainly vegetables and salad
