Newbie & daughter in tow

Hi,
Just started the 5:2 diet (The Fats Diet) with my daughter after trying every diet from A-Z and losing and then gaining +++ lbs.
So far only 5 days in and this is our second fast day. I am finding it relatively easy to fast but my daughter who is 23 is struggling a little so have split the 500 cals for three small meals. Finished eating at 7.30pm yesterday so today 9am Breakfast: mixed fruit, 1.30pm Lunch: 50cal cup-a-soup with 15g couscous, Dinner will be at 6.30pm: Large mixed salad, 50g cooked chicken, argave & balsamic vinegar dressing. Will we still get good results doing it this way until our bodies get used to the fasting and can go longer.
Anyway so far I'm loving it and can't wait to continue this journey and see where it takes us.
Hope to have long and fruitful chats on the way.
Take care everyone.

Welcome to the forums!!

Have you tried just not eating for as long as you can? I thought fasting was extremely difficult when I tried to have several meals. It seems when I eat, it sort of switched on my appetite for the day.

Now, all I have is black coffee, water and herbal tea until dinner at 6pm. For my first few weeks, I needed a cup of chicken bouillon a few times in the afternoon when I got really hungry, but I haven't wanted bouillon in a few weeks now.

It really does get easier. I think your body learns what to expect.

Hello and welcome to you both. Like Tracieknits, my husband and I both fast all day, saving all our calories for our evening meal. A number of people start off 5:2 eating two or three small meals and then discover that it sets off their 'hunger switch'. Switching to one, later meal seems to stop this happening for many people.

It could be that your daughter is apprehensive about the effect that 'fasting' may have on her. We have been conditioned by the dieting industry for years to believe that all sorts of terrible things will happen to us if we don't eat every few hours! As many of us have discovered, it is possible to survive a few hours without food. Hunger pangs do pass, one doesn't feel faint or fall over, headaches can be avoided with sufficient hydration and it is quite possible to carry out all ones usual daily activities!

I'm sure that with the support of each other, and this forum, you will make good progress. Good luck to you both on your 5:2 WOE (Way Of Eating).
