Hello From Southern California
22 Mar 2013, 20:53
I have been on the plan for about two weeks and have lost 3.5 lbs. painlessly. I love this way of eating. It is something I can live with forever. I don't mind the fast days at all and am now making a game of planning out my 500 calorie menus.

I've been on and off diets since I was 13 and I'm now in menopause, so I've been dieting for most of my life. It is such a relief to find a way of eating that feels so natural.

I saw the diet explained on a news segment and knew instinctively it was for me.

The Fastdiet book is now my eating "Bible", and I look forward to the cookbook coming out in May.
Hi and welcome to the forums!! Congrats on the weight loss :-)
Hi, javajive, where in Southern Cal? I live in Laguna Woods, Orange County, not too far from Laguna Beach. Saw a piece on Channel 7 news about the Fast Diet, did internet research and have been hooked ever since - 2 weeks now with 4 fast days. Can't say its always been easy but each fast goes a bit better and I love not having to worry too much on non-fast days. It takes some getting used to as I usually count everything and wanted more freedom.

Good luck in your journey.
Hi and thanks for the welcomes!

Lovemyparrot, we must have seen the same news show! I tried doing 3 fast days a week but didn't last. For me, 2 fast days is perfect. More than that feels like deprivation.

Do you know that on April 3rd, PBS will be showing Dr. Mosley's documentary about the 5:2 diet? I can't wait to see that.

We live in the South Bay, in Torrance, not far from the ocean. Love the weather, often a cool ocean breeze. I heard that Laguna Woods is such a beautiful area. I think we were there once to shop for art posters, but it was in the industrial area if I recall.

I don't count any calories on non fast days. I'll be happy if my weight stabilizes at a pound a week loss. This is the easiest eating plan I've ever been on

Good luck in your journey too!
You're not that far from us - its really a small world. Yes, I heard Dr. M's special was to be shown on PBS - but I couldn't wait and have already managed to watch it online - maybe I'll watch it again - its mostly about his research and how he finally decided on the 5:2 plan after trying complete fasting for 3 days straight, etc. No. He decided he'd never manage 3-days with one Miso soup again!!!

I try not to calorie count on non fast days, but always feel very guilty. Its just old habits, I know. Lots of good info and support on this site. Keep us posted on your progress!
lovemyparrot,

I've finally found a way of eating I can live with. I weigh in tomorrow! Keep us posted on your progress too. We can do this!
