Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hello all
New to the diet (and forums in general) but inspired by long-term health benefits of this way of eating - particularly if it can delay or rule out dementia in later life (parent with this) - and the whole evolutionary argument makes sense to me....

I also have weight to lose! Like others, I have tried various diets over the years but I have never maintained successful weight losses long term because I have never fundamentally changed my relationship with food, nor have I been able and willing to accept that you cannot let up and go back to old patterns of eating again. The mindset that it's a WOE not a diet, with short spells of denial seems sustainable - so will see!

Started last week with fast days Monday and Wednesday. Did 16-18 hr fasts to max health benefits. Managed ok though poor sleep those nights. Will do the same this week and start to post progress!

Hello to you, lemonsqueezy! Congratulations on your first week on the 5:2 WOE and your first post. This forum is a great place to find help, advice and support. Are you using the Progress Tracker? It is very encouraging to watch the line on the graph descending towards the red target line, even with a blip or two along the way!

I too have a concern about dementia, as my mother suffered with it for the last eight years of her life. It is a miserable condition and I will do anything I can to avoid it, although, as yet, there is no firm evidence that this WOE can help. The weight loss aspect is brilliant enoough on its own though to keep me on 5:2, then 6:1, for the forseeable future.

I hope your sleep improves as you become more used to the fasting. It is quite common at first, I believe, so hang in there!

Hello,

I have done 3 weeks on the fast diet fasting on a Monday & Thursday, have lost 7lb, so am very impressed so far. The fasting days are hard, but i eat breakfast - 2 boiled eggs, lunch - a weightwatchers tin of soup with some fruit, then a ham salad for tea. I do feel hungry but you know you can eat more the following day. I am tracking my calories even on the non-fasting days, just to see how many calories i am consuming, as you dont realise how much you eat until you start to track them. I do allow myself a treat such as a bit of chocolate or crisps on these days, but am careful not to overdo it. I too have tried many diets over the years, and whilst successful at the time, i dont maintain the weightloss longterm. Best of luck to you and everyone else embarking on this diet. :victory:
