Did I fail at my fast?
24 Mar 2013, 11:47
I ate as usual 9pm Friday night, then didn't eat a single calorie until 8pm Saturday night when I had the 500 cals. Then went to bed. My toddler was up all night coughing and crying. Unable to sleep, at 1am I found myself in the kitchen, stuffing my face with jam and butter on toast (at least 8 slices) followed by a handful of chocolate digestives. Then slept on the livingroom floor(!) Now I'm feeling very

Did I fail at my Saturday fast? Or did I technically not fail because it was 1am on Sunday when I binged?

Pip, no-one ever fails on a fast day, they just eat more calories than they planned.

I can certainly understand the temptation if you'd been up all night with a sick child, so don't beat yourself up.

If it were me, I would try and eat a bit less during the day today and then just have the next fast day as planned. The joy of this WoL is the flexibility it gives you.

Hope your toddler is better soon. :)

Oops! That was a (quite understandable!) carbohydrate blow out wasn't it? You had a brilliant first day, so at least you know that you can do it. Put it behind you - of course you didn't fail! By fasting you are trying for an overall reduction in calories throughout your week/month/year. Looked at like that, providing you don't eat eight slices of toast and chocolate biscuits every night, then you can't help but lose weight!

I agree with Jemima - Don't reduce your food intake too much today in an attempt to compensate for all those carbs, just eat moderately and get on with your next fast day as planned.
