Lurker finally registered

Hello,

I've been lurking on here anonymously for quite a while but decided to finally register as I'm coming up to nearly three months on the diet and wanted to share my stats on the progress tracker.

I saw the Horizon programme last year and for the first time thought that this was something that might work for me. I've never been one for conventional diets and have seen too many people yo-yo every year, failing to keep the weight off.

I wanted to find something that would work for me. However, I didn't get started at the time but for various reasons the diet came under my radar again in December so I did some further research. I'm a scientist by training and have been involved in the food industry so I had a good long look at all the evidence. Vascular dementia and strokes run in my paternal line, so that was a worry for me, although none of the females in the family have suffered from it. My OH has been diagnosed with high blood pressure and has a similar weight problem to me. So we had some long discussions and decided to start the diet after Christmas and see how it went.

Well, we are converted! Weight loss is steady and we both feel fitter and healthier. I've got rid of my sugar cravings and no longer snack through the day. I've still got a long way to go, but I can see it's achievable. You can see my stats here, but just to add to it, OH has gone from 117.5kg to 108kg, so he's really impressed too. For both of us, we see this as a permanent change to how we eat. We've both always loved our food. I'm a very keen cook and we like to go out to good restaurants. Never been massive fans of fast food, so that's not been our problem, it's been portion size and snacking. These are now both under control for us.

I'm still Mrs Michelin at the moment, but I'm starting to get my waist back!

Thanks for the welcome. It's the long term benefits that really interested me, but let's face it, losing some weight can only contribute to that in my case as I started off with a BMI of 36.91.

My dad has been suffering with vascular dementia for several years now. The decline is long and slow and it's just a horrible way to end your life. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. He's never been overweight, so it's much more likely to be another genetic or environmental factor that's caused it.

Our children are quite proud of what we've lost so far, especially the youngest, when we pointed out to him that Mummy and Daddy had so far together lost more than he weighed (he's only 4 years old, but even so that's quite a nice thing to know!)
