Hi

I had never heard of 5:2 till my G P mentioned it yesterday. I decided to plunge in and am fasting today but it's not easy, is it? I am now on a recipe hunt and pondering what to cook, as my husband could eat an entire elephant and not put on an ounce. I'm pleased I found this site though and have had a quick browse. You all seem very helpful and supportive. This is like embarking on an adventure - mountains, white water, obstacles but, hopefully, some level ground too.

Hello Jenspinner and welcome to the forum. It is an adventure and I'm enjoying it. Hope you do too and let us know how you get on. Lots of info and support here and do check out the progress tracker.
Set your compass for over there were the level ground is and cast off!

Thanks for the encouraging comments janeg. Level ground and Paracetamol! Thumping headache but from what I've read, that is not unusual. I managed ok today I think but am desperately hoping that things get easier as people say they do. Everyone seems to be doing so well, which is SO encouraging.

Welcome Janspinner, yes you should find fasting gets easier, the first couple of weeks are the hardest. The best way to get to eat a lot on a fast day is to eat vegetables, which conveniently are good for you too. I leave all my eating until the evening which is when I get most hungry - though these days I often end up under my fast day calorie allowance.

I'm delighted to hear that your GP mentioned 5:2 to you!

Hi Dominic, thanks for that. I've just read that a salty drink might help but was under the impression that added salt is forbidden. It's a bit of a minefield, this nutrition malarkey.

Yes, I'm pretty impressed with my GP too. He took a lot of time to talk through all options and is so supportive. (Drop dead gorgeous too, which doesn't help!) (Hope he doesn't read this.)
