Newbie and advice please!
27 Mar 2013, 11:43
Hi,
Heard lots about the health benefits, bought MM book, and decided to give this a go on 6:1 as my BMI is within healthy range (23ish).
Yesterday was my second fasting day, felt fine all day, although did eat little and often rather than 1/2 bigger meals. Struggled on day 1 last week by feeling hungry over night, so tried half a portion alpen in the evening yesterday (end of fast day). Felt fine going to bed, but woke up at 1.30am unable to sleep again I was so hungry. Was 50 or so cals under on my fast day, and figured it was almost the new day anyway so had a small piece of bread with butter and got back to sleep. Think I've figured out that this is 'proper' hunger rather than bored hunger, so was never going to go away by a glass of water/low cal foods - needed some combo of proper carbs, proteins or fats to make it go away!
Any thoughts/tips on coping with this or stopping it happening in future? Feel so exhausted today from the broken sleep!

Hi maybe try having a milky drink prior to going to bed, I've read on other threads that this works for others who have the same problem.
Me, I sleep like a log after a fast day so can't speak from experience.

Alpen and bread are both sugary / starchy things that might be expected to make you hungry after an hour or two.

Not to mention that sugar tends to wake you up, not help you sleep. Perhaps more carbs during the day?
