Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hi. I've read so many good reviews about the 5:2 diet that I am psyching myself up for starting it tomorrow 1/4/13. It will be exactly 6 months to my 50th birthday (1/10/13) and I am hoping to shed a good few pounds before then. I should lose 4 stone to get to my ideal weight. However I want to be realistic about it and certainly don't want to have that withered and haggard look that people get when they lose too much weight and also too quickly.

Welcome Cholula. It's good to have goals isn't it. If you have a look at the progress tracker you can get an idea of how peopel with similar circumstances to you get on. That'll give you an idea of the 'average' and help you to set realistic attainable goals. No point is setting ourselves up to fail is there! Good luck for your first fast. Please do use the forum for info and support and let us know how you get on.

Hello, Cholula. Welcome to the forum. Best wishes for your new WOE. You may be able to lose about 28lb before your birthday, which will make a huge difference to the way you both look and feel.

There seem to be a number of factors which affect the rate of weight loss and, as more people join this forum, reasons for some of the problems which people are encountering are becoming clearer. I suggest that you just go for it and, with any luck, you will lose weight steadily and with little problem. However, if you do encounter any difficulties, then this is the place to come to look for advice, support, a shoulder to cry on, comradeship and so on! Never be afraid to ask a question because there will always be someone who can point you in the right direction for an answer.

Good luck for tomorrow. Hunger pangs will go away if ignored and, as far as I know, no-one has ever died from their fast days! The joy of this WOE is that if tomorrow doesn't work for you, then there is always the next day! Let us know how you get on!
