Hi,

I started the 5:2 diet yesterday, and want to check that I did it right, as I had a 'proper' dinner both yesterday and today.

So yesterday, after eating dinner at 3.30pm, I declared at 5pm that I was fasting.
I ate nothing until from 5pm yesterday to 11pm today, where I had 2 eggs and a slice of white bread (~320cal, upcounted just in case) and drank a diet coke and lots of water. Then I had a normal dinner at 6.30pm eating what I wanted (Carbonara, but with low fat philly!).

Is this right? Does the fact I've eaten two main meals count?

:starving:
Yes and no.
The general concept is to have dinner on one day, go to bed, wake up, consume 500 for the second day, go to bed and have your breaky as you would on any day on the third day.
That way, you can achieve a +/-36-hours fast.
Some people do 24-hours fats, kinda like you did, but experience less weight loss.
Seems good to me.
I normally fast from about 7pm with a fasting day to to 7 am. That's about 33-35 hours without food. It works best for me.
You did 31 hours plus, which is good.
I'll be interested to see what others think.
Best of luck,
Peter

You're looking for a 75% calorie reduction in a 24h period. At 11am you had 320 calories and then today's dinner so you have only missed breakfast and maybe had fewer calories at lunch, I don't think you hit the target.

If you have three meals a day you should identify how you're going to use 500 cals to replace those meals. If you use 500 cals to replace 1 or 2 then eat the 3rd normally you're not restricting to the required amount.

I think you had a typo about the 11 o'clock time ?
Yes I meant 11am!

Ok! So next time, I will plough through until dinner.

Thanks for the help!
Just count 500 calories from the time you wake up till the time you go to bed.
