Must have been all the chocolate that was around this weekend, but I too have decided to start the 5:2 diet today, with a fast day. I am actually going to try it as a 4:3 as I have quite a lot of weight to lose. I know that this isn't a quick fix diet, but I'm hoping that by having three fast days I might get slightly higher than average losses to start with :like:

I'm looking forward to browsing the forum and seeing how other people are doing too

Hi Emms,

I've started today also. Had a few tummy rumbles and felt quite headachy earlier on but feel surprisingly well at the moment.

How you doing?

Hi,

I'm also starting today. I feel ok so far, and not actually hungry which is a good thing!

Good luck to you both!

Not too bad for the moment, but we've been really busy at work today, so that helps! No time to notice the hunger pangs. I'm planning to do all my fasting on work days - if I don't bring in any extra food, I can't be led astray!

Hi Emms! From what I gather doing 4:3 doesn't necessarily speed up the weight loss or have any extra health benefits - this may be just because there isn't enough evidence to say that it does (or doesn't!) so far. Maybe you could try it and if you find it easy then go for it, but, for me, the great thing about doing 5:2 is it's completely sustainable in the long term, I'm not always calorie counting or focused on food all the time. (It has totally made me more aware of what's going in my mouth though!). Good luck! Everyone is really nice on here, it's really rather addictive!

Me too, started today, all going well so far, been out in the sunshine, trying to keep busy. Aiming for another fast day on Thursday, wish me luck.

Hi Emms - im in my 5th week and finding the weight loss a little slow but definitely lost inches around my waist. So i totally recommend taking your own measurements before starting to avoid feeling disheartened if you don't drop 3lbs+ each week. In the nerdy bit there is comparable data showing an average of 1lb loss per week which i think is more common.
Also, some advice to start with - the hunger fight gets easier as soon as you realise that a hunger pang does not equal certain death (it did to me pre 5:2!!) Drink PINTS of water with lemon, alternating with warm water with lemon and remember miso soup is your friend!
Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice, everyone :) I'm aiming for a second fast day on Thursday too this week, then I will hopefully swap to a Monday, Wednesday, Friday pattern from next week.

I've never tried Miso Soup - do you all make it, or can you buy it ready made somewhere? I'm in the UK btw

there's a place online in the UK called japanese Kitchen (i think) that sell miso soup paste which I have had a few times and it's really nice. it's in seperate serving sachets so you make it just like cuppa soup and it's only 30 cal a cup.

Hi I have also started fasting today. Struggling a bit now, feeling hungry and fidgety and counting down until dinner. Sad I know but determined to succeed x

How did everyones first fast day go?

Mine wasn't too bad although I was pretty hungry when I went to bed but I just told myself I could have a lovely breakfast in the morning and went to sleep.

Although I am not fasting today I am not planning on munching all day and I'm going to try and stay below 1000 cals. Then a little more tomorrow and then fast again on Friday. I have some family things going on the weekend so definitley not fasting or low cal-ing over the week end.

Planning on fast days being Mondays and Wednesdays after that.

Hi there - most health food shops will sell Miso paste - I usually get a light one in a jar. Lasts for ages as you only need a teaspoon to make a mug of soup

Sainsbury's do miso paste in the aisle with all the lovely exotic pastes and potions. I prefer the paste over the sachets but really only because i prefer mine quite strong. It does cost £3.99 and really only lasts me 3 fast days. Any chinese supermarket also sells some japanese products so if you can track one down it will probably be a great deal cheaper than sainsbury's. It is an aquired taste by the way, but it really does sort out any tummy rumbles!

Hi Everyone,

My first fast day went prety well although i was tired at the end and had a bath to stop me snacking in the evening. Second fast day today following a non-fast day yesterday and I'm doing ok. My non-fast day was lovely and I felt completely guilt-free eating my 3 course dinner followed by a cheese board!
