Just starting out
04 Apr 2013, 16:48
Hey,
I have just started the 5:2 diet this week. I was previously on the VLCD diet and found it really difficult to stick to.
My mum suggested I tried this diet that her boyfriend is on.
I know I am not ridiculously overweight but the doctor has told me I am overweight so I want to shift about 5 pounds! It shouldn't take long but I am a serial binger.
I am 21, 5'4 and 10 stone. BMI is about 24.

I was trying to exercise as well as diet but I have had a throat infection for a few days &&& I am on shift work so my days range from early mornings, evenings and night shift. Shifts are making it difficult to control my calorie intake!
If anyone has any tips that would be great!

Hi Vari & welcome :) Your doctor sounds a bit harsh - a BMI of 24 and he says you're overweight? How rude! A BMI of 25 or over is classed as overweight.

5:2 is a nice easy way to regain control of your calorie intake without it impacting your social life or ability to enjoy food :) However I should note that as you're already in the healthy BMI range and don't have a lot to lose, you probably won't notice very fast results. I would expect it to take you a couple of months to shift those 5lbs. If you are exercising too you may find you don't notice weight loss so much as inch loss, as you may be converting fat to muscle.

For what it's worth, I'm 5'4" and when I was 21 I was at least 11 if not 11.5stone. I dream of being 10 stone again :) I know I'll get there with 5:2, but having already lost over 2.5stone I know the rest will be slow going. I don't mind though - I can still enjoy my food, which is important to me.
