Melbourne Aussie newbie

Hi everyone, I a from Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula to be exact. I started this diet a little while back and am now into my fourth week on it. I lost a little initially but seem to have put some back on this week...sigh...this forum looks great and am looking forward to connecting with others and sharing info.
I am menopausal so am expecting slower weight loss...am 53 and dont have that wonderful youthful metabolism any more. I am on natural hormone therapy so no hot flushes etc but i am always tired.
I feel i am losing my little 'buddha belly' slowly but no sign of it on the scales.

G'day chellie and welcome to the forum!

Don't worry about the little bit of regain, it's quite normal in the first few weeks for your weight to go up and down a little as your body adjusts its balance of fat & water (initially you lose more water, then you regain water but lose fat... so the scales can be a bit misleading at first).

Looking at the progress tracker stats, your age bracket has around the average loss so here's hoping for a steady 1lb or so a week loss for you overall :D

Hi Chellie, I'm from Sydney and started in March.
My loss has been very up and down but overall am losing and considering I'm still eating many foods normally forbidden on diets I'm happy.
I'm 56 and STILL menopausal, which I feel does have an influence on fluid gains and losses. I'm happy to lose slowly as that's the way to keep it off I think.
Happy 5:2ing!

Welcome to the 50+ Aussie forum! Sydney, 52 and on HRT here so I understand exactly where you are coming from. Apart from the weight loss, I really am noticing a big reduction in my tummy which is fantastic and very gratifying when the weight loss slows down. I have slim legs and hips so haven't noticed a huge difference there but my tum is much softer and visibly smaller. I have also noticed that my watch is much looser in the last couple of weeks. Stick with it, use these wonderful forums and the support you will receive here and you will see results.

Hi chellie. I'm on the other side of Melbourne in the West. I'm 57 and still having hot and cold running flushes! I've been doing 5:2 since mid Feb and slowly my muffin top is diminishing.Nice to see some more Aussies here, specially those of a "certain age" as well.

Hi - another Aussie here - I live in Port Macquarie on the mid north coast of NSW. I'm 54 and have been on this 5:2 diet for 3.5 weeks - have lost 5 kilos so I am really happy. I don't find it difficult to do - I feel like I am in control of my eating and consequently also in control of other life factors. I do however have a question ... What are others doing for exercise? Do you deduct calories burned from your calorie intake? Do you exercise on fast days?
Looking forward to your ideas about this.....
Lovely to be part of a forum of like-minded people.

Hello to all Aussies,
I started 5:2 on 17/4/2013 and I have initially lost 1.5kg.
I am also menopausal and 54 years old.
My weight goal is get back to my healthy 60kg I had been for a large portion of my life. Since entering the big M era I have gained quite a few kilos and now sport unsightly muffin tops and jelly belly which I hate. I don't want larger clothes either!
Thanks for the warning about gaining a little weight after the initial loss. Knowing this will keep me on track and not disheartened.
By the way I live north east Victoria.
