PLEASE KEEP WORKING!
09 Apr 2013, 21:43
Tomorrow will be week 3, day 2. I'm down almost 8 pounds with an indulge on Easter. This is very unusual for me as it has often taken 3 months to lose 8 pounds. (thyroid issue) I work out on fast days and on feast days as I really want to be at my best by the end of May (big life event). Hoping I make it. If I lose 10 pounds by then, it will be my lowest weight in 20 years!

You are doing well! Congratulations. I think most people lose more slowly, but you are losing fast! :)

Okay, sitting here this morning a little discouraged but trying not to be. On my Day 2 of week 3, I lost another 1.7 pounds and was elated! Worked out with weights and cardio the next day hard and did not exceed eating 1200 calories for the day. I got up this morning and weighed - up 1 pound. So disappointed:( How does this happen? Does it mean I should eat less than 1200 calories? I'm eating mostly vegetables - small amount of meat. No sweets. I know I'm over reacting but weight is so hard to loose for me. I was down 9.5 in three weeks of fasting - now at 8.5. Is this typical?

I hate to be negative but you're possibly not eating enough. You're averaging below 1000 cals a day averaged over a week, if you meant you're on 1200 per feed day.

That's not sustainable in the long-run, ok if you just want a quick burst of weight loss but it's not really healthy.

A pound up is nothing, training will increase the water you're holding. Unless you've eaten 3600 cals more than needed yesterday, it's not fat!

You say that you worked out with weights and also did cardio, were your muscles a bit sore when you weighed yourself? Could be the weight you see on the scales is just water retained by the muscles for repair. And please don't be so hard on yourself, weight loss or gain isn't as important as how you feel and how your clothes actually fit.
Muscle weighs more than fat, so that 1 pound could just be lean muscle.

Thanks, BTT053 and Betsysgr8. I feel a little guilty now - sounding like a baby. I had just lost so well on the 5:2 diet. I have never, ever done this well so I guess I had a small panic attack thinking it had run its course. Your response were informative and, yes, much more logical than I was sounding. Really appreciated!!

It's fine. You've made a terrific start, just need to consolidate the losses now and finetune your approach.

It sort of does sound too good to be true but you have to believe and actually, you have to eat enough to sustain you on the other days to make it work better. Then it is sustainable and you have control back.

Seriously, chill! :-)
