Just saying hi
11 Apr 2013, 01:11
hi only just found out about the 5:2 diet yesterday, saw the documentary on YouTube, and have bought the book. I have had lifelong struggles with my weight, I am not hugely overweight but have spent my whole life in the slightly overweight category. As a teenager i also struggled with binge eating and vomiting. Whilst now at 40 i have a better attitude to food and my weight, there have been countless times when I have felt like a failure for not being able to maintain a healthier weight. I have high LDL levels, and a family history of diabetes and heart disease. I am planning to start my first ever fast tomorrow. Just gone out and bought the scales , have avoided those for years !

welcome Delly and Claire I am sure this will change your life around, For years I have struggled with my weight  A few tummy rumbles on fast days are worth being able to be normal on non fast days, Now when I babysit grandchildren I can have snack with them and not feel that I might as well eat everything in sight for the rest of the day ( because I will start my diet again to-morrow). My daughter once said to me that I didn't need a diet I needed a psychiatrist , so now I don't have a diet I have a way of life. It is so so so worth it

Hi Delly, I'm newish to this way of life too, am on my 4th fast day today. I'm like yourself, not hugely overweight (anymore - I've lost 30Ibs in the last 2 years)but the appeal of this way of doing things is that I really need to concentrate for 2 days per week rather than 24/7 - I can handle that no problem! The weird thing is I was worried about feeling faint while exercising as I play badminton on my 2 fasting days (Tue and Thu) but in fact I played better than ever last week! I had been having 2 small meals on my fasting days, lunch and dinner but today I'm going to try holding out till dinner time - I agree with others on here that as soon as I eat it makes my hungrier! I lost 2 Ibs in my first week - I'm so happy I came across this way of life - definitely sustainable in the long term. Best of luck with it.

Thanks for all your replies  I think the potential of how life changing this way of life can be for us all is so inspiring. I am looking forward tomorrow to my 2nd fast, and really excited to be on this new health journey. It is great to know that I'm not alone out there. There is such a thriving community here of us all, so much we can learn from each other and by hearing the experiences of others we can all help support each other though the tummy rumbles .

I started last Thursday, have decided to do Tues & Thurs so have only had the one fast day so far I had breakfast & tea found I was hungry between 3-4 came home from work had a banana then went to the gym when I got back I was no longer hungry , had a bath and then tea ... I'm looking forward to tues. I've definitely found after one day that I am more concious if I'm eating because I can or because I'm hungry, think this will also cut down on my shopping bill , so win win
