I am new to this forum and I hope that I am posting in the right place. Here's a bit about me. So, I weighed myself yesterday. I was shocked because I had avoided the scales for months - last time I weighed it was so disappointing and depressing. I am constantly gaining even tho I am not eating more than I ever did! Every one keeps telling me its from the stress of dealing with my husbands long term illness, and during the 18 months of waiting to see if he would ne able to get a new liver in time. Suddenly, I began to gain weigh - a lot of weight. As he got sicker and lost weight, I gained more weight! To make a long journey short, he has got his new liver and is doing fairly well, but I am still gaining! So...here I am on my very first fast day hoping this will kick start my metabolism into a higher gear and I can start to get rid of some weight and lower my numbers, which for me, is of paramount importance. If anybody can tell me, what is the one thing to do that will help me through this first time? I really need to to start seeing a little progress soon. During the next few days I'll be reading and exploring this forum and I plan to get Michael Mosley's book soon. I saw him on TV - that is how I found out about the diet. Sorry so long. Thanks for reading.

One thing???? I've only done 2 fast days, so I guess the one thing I would say is drink plenty of fluids - especially when the hunger pangs hit.

Read some of the blogs - especially the read first one it helps a lot!

Welcome, you'll find this forum is very supportive.

Hi debbiejgp,
Thanks for the tip and for taking the time. I think I'm going to need all the support I can find. Ate a large veg salad for dinner. Looking forward to eating a nice breakfast tomorrow, tho.
Good luck to us!
Bye for now.

Hi Damatriach. You and hubby have been through a lot. I'm glad to hear he is getting better. No wonder you put weight on bet I would too. So now that he is on the way to recovery it's time to take care of yourself. I've been doing this since February and it is hard at first but gets easier. Everyone copes differently as you will read. I leave eating until evening and drink lots of water and coffee with a splash of milk all day.
Don't stress if the weight doesn't fall off. I've only lost 3 kilos but I'm mainly glad I'm not putting weight on and my clothes fit again. And also I can enjoy food on eating days without checking everything I consume. (I eat pretty healthy anyway just too much and maybe a bit/ lot of wine)
We're all here for support.

I've just completed my fourth fast day and the weight is finally moving. On the fast days I drink plenty of water with a slice of lemon plus cups of tea with dash of skimmed milk then have a 500 cal. meal in the evening. Some like to have their calories throughout the day - it's up to you. Personally I know I'm not going to starve to death by fasting for just one day and knowing that I can eat normally the next day makes this diet easy to follow.
Best of luck.
